| Prepare bread dough recipe. Let rise once. kneed on a floured surface for about 1 minute. Divide in half for two loaves or make one very large loaf ( as above in photo ). Roll out until 1/2" thick and roll like a jelly roll making a loaf. Place seam side down on parchment lined cookie sheet and cover with damp cloth. Let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size. Glaze with diluted egg white ( egg white with 1 T water ) and sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds. Bake in a hot oven until golden brown. For a braid, divide in three parts, shape into "ropes" and braid, tucking ends underneath for a finished look. Place on parchment lined cookie sheet, cover with damp cloth and let rise for about an hour or until doubled in size. Glaze and bake as above. NOTES; Use your imagination! A four rope braid is very beautiful! A large braid with a smaller braided loaf on top is a Jewish Wedding tradition. Be creative by making shapes you dream up yourself! |
