Sweet Beets
Peel and cube ( or slice ) beets into bite sized pieces. Cover with water in a pot and boil until soft. Make sure that they are covered with water at all times while boiling. Add more water if needed.

Drain half of the water from the beets. Add sugar, salt, pepper, cinnamon, cloves and lemon juice. Stir until sugar is desolved.

In 1/2 C water mix in cornflour with a fork until there are no lumps. Add to beets and stir constantly until it all thickens. Continue for about two minutes so all starch is cooked.
3 medium beets
( peeled and cubed )
1/2 C sugar
1/8 t salt
dash of pepper
pinch cinnamon
pinch cloves
2 T lemon juice
1/2 C water
1 T cornflour
