Lone Hearts
Jesse and Zack's Story

Jealousy
                                                                         Chapter One
Jesse headed down the long wide corridors climbing what seemed like hundreds of tormenting stairs. She finally arrived on the tall roof her heart pounding wildly in her chest.  She slumped on a neatly laid, blue blanket and cast her eyes over the shadowed city. Only the bright lights of skyscrapers and office buildings lit up the dark taunting  streets.
Jesse sighed softly. She enjoyed being on the roof the view of the city and the stars was so glamorous. It looked so peaceful and with everything becoming so complicated for her she needed a place to think where she could be free.
Jesse lay back on the soft blanket her eyes fixed on the mesmerizing, golden stars above her.  Eventually she felt her eyes grow heavy and fell into a deep sleep.
Zack stood at the top of the long stair way his eyes searched the huge roof until he saw the shadowed, outline of Jesse's slender body.  He silently, strolled over to her. She looked so beautiful, so peaceful. He wished that he could hold her tightly to him, caress her until she was screaming with pleasure. He'd wanted her for two years, two years too long Zack thought now shaking his head. No. He couldn't have her. She was his best friend he couldn't allow himself to love her.
He bent slowly, gently scooping her in his strong arms feeling her soft flesh against his. Her head unconsciously snuggling against his strong chest. He could barely control the sudden flood of desire that he felt for her. He wanted her right here, right now. He struggled to control himself as he wandered down the long corridor, kicking open the tall brown door to her small bedroom.
He carried her to the long bed drawing back the covers, her body tightly pressed against his. Carefully lying  her on the soft mattress. She stirred slightly, then eased under the warm covers. He bent his head his lips lightly brushing her forehead. He straightened his eyes falling on her sleeping face. It's a good thing you're moving out in the morning he told himself his eyes stroking,  caressing over the slender curves of her soft body. Knowing she was only in the room next to his had driven him crazy.

Zack tossed the final few clothes he owned into the half empty box. He could feel her beautiful eyes burrowing into the back of his neck. He forced a smile to cross his lips. He didn't want to leave her even though it was for the best he'd miss her. Even though his flat was only a 15 minute drive away he still felt as if he was moving miles away.
"Hi." Her smile lit up her pale face making her look devastatingly beautiful. Slowly she walked over to him. Her eyes immediately fell to the box's that lay on his bed. "Are you leaving today?" Her voice was calm although she didn't feel it.
"Yeah, The flats ready and I don't see much point in delaying. He turned back to the box's placing a label on the final one, his eyes intent on them. He couldn't look at her, every time he did he wanted to take her into his arms and kiss until she was begging him never to let her go.
"I'll miss you." She wanted him to stay, she wanted him to be with her. She prayed he hadn't heard the desperation in her voice.
"I'm still going to  be here for you. In fact you'll probably see more of me now than you did before. Besides if you need me you'll always be welcome." He turned then lifting her hand in his. He placed a small gold key in the palm of her hand closing her long, slender fingers over it. Jesse forced a smile although it was quickly replaced by crystal tears rolling down her cheeks. She couldn't fight them no matter how hard she tried.
"Hey come one." Zack whispered softly taking her into his arms. Wrapping her tightly in his strong embrace.
"I don't want you to." She sobbed against his shoulder. She hated herself for allowing him to see how weak she was.
"Jess we all have to move out sooner or later and I might as well be sooner. Nothings going to change between us. You'll always be my best friend." He moved her slightly from him to see her face, not releasing her from the circle of his strong arms. Her emerald eyes stared up at him sparkling from her tears.
He cupped her chin in his hands smudging her tears with his thumbs. He bent his head to hers his lips pressing against hers. She opened her mouth slightly. His mouth was warm and soft his tongue entered hers deepening the kiss, shivers causing through her body, her legs growing weak beneath her. Slowly Zack forced his mouth from hers. Jesse stared at him, confusion filling her dazed eyes.
"Jess I'm sorry." He released her from his arms, taking a step backwards he couldn't allow this, he told himself his breathing erratic.
"Zack I wanted you to." She took a step towards him then stilled as his expression remained closed.
"No. Jesse don't. We're friends nothing more." He turned swiftly away from her lifting one of the box's. He couldn't look at her, he'd seen the hurt in her eyes and new if he did he'd take her in his arms and never let her go.

Chapter Two
"Are you okay?" Jesse turned to see Celia standing above her. Celia's 3 month old son held firmly in her arms.
"I will be." She roughly brushed the back of her hand over her eyes wiping away the cold tears from her burning cheeks.
"I can I sit down?"
"Sure." Celia lowered herself carefully onto the blue blanket beside Jesse.
"What's wrong?" She asked a few moments later.
"It's nothing." She lied unable to look up at Celia.
"It doesn't look like nothing to me. Is it Zack? Do you miss him. He's been gone two days now and the two of you were inseparable.
"It's not that. I do miss him. It's just that before he left something happened." She paused wondering if she should tell Celia or not. Why not? Zack wasn't hear to talk to and she wasn't sure she could talk to him. Not after the way he'd dismissed it just two days before. "Zack kissed. Then he said we were just friends nothing more."
"Is that what you want?" Celia asked in a low whisper, rocking her son in her arms.
"No. I thought it was but when he told me he was moving I realized how much I I love him." She bit down on her lip saying it out loud made it some how more real.
"Have you told him?"
"I can't. He's made it clear he doesn't want me, not as a girlfriend anyway."
"You should tell him. You'll regret it if you don't."

Jesse smiled up at the tall blonde woman who stood in the door way of her room.
"Why don't you come out with us tonight? It might help take your mind off Zack." Lola smiled at her leaning against the door.
"You're not going to leave me alone until I say I'll come are you?"
"No." Lola strolled over to Jesse's tall wardrobe, opening the two brown doors. She searched through the clothes then tossed a pair of black jeans and a gold V neck top onto the bed beside Jesse.
Jesse slumped on the edge of a padded mahogany seat, that was placed in a square around a table.
"I'll get the drinks." Lola announced as she and Tira made there way over to the bar.
"I'll see you later girls." Rea said a few moments later, shimmying her way past flame. Flame grinned as she watched Rea making her way to the bar towards a tall sandy brown haired man who was slumped onto a chair nursing a bottle of beer.
"I wonder how many drinks she can get out of this guy before she moves on to his best friend." Trudy remarked watching as Rea tilted her head allowing her hair to fall seductively over her breasts.
"Rea's not the kind of girl to stick around and get hurt." Flame remarked to know one in particular.
"What about Josh?" Sky asked her eyes fixed on Rea who was still flirting endlessly with the poor guy at the bar.
"He's not here, besides he's with that Emma or Emily whatever she's called." Lola joined the conversation as she an Tira began handing out the drinks.
Jesse's eyes suddenly caught on a  familiar figure sitting in the corner of the bar chatting to a sexy blonde.
"I'm sure they're just friends." Lola said following the direction of Jesse's gaze.
"Did you know they'd be here?" Jesse's face turned towards Lola.
"Of course not. I only noticed them when we came in. I was hoping you wouldn't see." Hurt flashed in Jesse's eyes as Zack learned forwards pressing a light kiss on the woman's lips.
"I guess I know why he's not interested in me."
"Maybe he only met her tonight. She probably means nothing to him."
"I don't know if that makes it better or worse." She paused trying to fight the tears that were welling up in her eyes. "I've got to go." Jesse jumped from her chair and almost ran to the door, pushing past a crowd of people blocking the way.

The gang sat in the crowded kitchen around several tables discussing tactics for there next fight. Jesse chanced to look up and see Zack strolling over to the table. He pulled up a seat beside her slumping down into it. She could hardly stand being next to him. He'd hurt her and he didn't even know what he'd done. She wanted him to hurt as much as she was then he'd know what it felt like to have some one tear your heart out. She stood quickly almost knocking over her chair. She muttered something to Lola who sat to her right and rushed from the room.
Celia stood in the doorway to her room a few moments later.
"Hi." She said in a low voice taking a step into the room. Jesse looked up her eyes red and puffy, her cheeks crimson.
"Oh, hey."
"Lola told us about Zack and that other girl at the bar the other night. Know wonder you ran from the kitchen."
"I doubt Zack even noticed me leave."
"Of course he did. He cares about you. He asked Lola if you were okay. She said you weren't feeling well. He's worried about you."
"Yeah. As a friend. I can't live like this. You're lucky you have Blake he'd die for you he loves you that much and you have such a beautiful baby boy."
"You'll find someone Jess. You just have to be patient."
"That's just it I found the one I want be he doesn't want me." Celia sat beside Jesse and hugged her.
"It'll work out you'll see."
