Sermet's
Last night we went to Sermet's, located at 276 King St., 853-7775.  Ho hum is the best description of our experience.  The atmosphere was nice, but a little too noisy.  We were seated right in front of the kitchen, which was open to the rest of the restaurant.  I'd rather not be able to view the food preparations.  I had the marinated chicken breast served with vermecelli pasta in a basil lemon pesto and sauteed vegetables.  The vegetables were good, the chicken was average and the pasta was tasteless.  Jerry had the pork tenderloin served with creamy ricotta polenta and sauteed vegetables.  He thought the pork and the vegetables were very good, but didn't like the polenta .  I tasted this stuff and it was awful.  It was like oatmeal without any milk, butter, sugar, or cinnamon. This is what they should serve to prisoners!  We didn't have an appetizer or salad, we just stuck with the bread, which was excellent.  By far the best part of the meal was the dessert.  We ordered a chocolate, raspberry cheesecake and it was amazing (I don't even like raspberrys!).  It came drizzled with chocolate sauce and a pretty dollop of whip cream with a beautiful real orchid on top, which I wore in my hair for the rest of the night.  It was delicious and beautifully presented.  Jerry rated Sermet's an 8.9, and I gave them an 8 only because of the dessert. Overall they get an 8.5.  It's definitely worth dropping by to try the chocolate, raspberry cheesecake!

Andolini's
We went out to Andolini's Pizza located at 82 wentworth St., 722-7437. They boast having New York style pizza, and it comes real close.  They mastered the crust, thin and slightly burnt on the bottom.  This appeals to Jerry, but not to me.  I prefer a softer crust  They didn't, however have the sauce quite right.  Don't get me wrong, the sauce was excellent, but you just can't duplicate New York style sauce, there has got to be something in the water up there that gives it a unique zing.  Anyway, the pizza was very good at Andolini's down here in good 'ol Charleston, South Carolina.  They get some deductions for cleanliness, or should I say, lack of, but overall, it was pretty good.  I give them a 9.4, Jerry gives them a 9.8, so they get a 9.6.
