Statistics Nickname: Gee, or ‘G’ Gender: Female Age: Eighteen Species: Completely human Attributes: Quite tall, slender
and without her clothes rather wiry, (but it’s not like you’ll see her
naked, so it’s not something we have to think about, okay?) her skin is
surprisingly pale. Charismatic, there’s something there about her,
something that just pulls your attention. With a rather striking face,
her dark blue eyes sulky lips and those expressionate brows seem almost
exaggerated. She doesn’t try, and it’s not really that she happens to
be sulky. She’s the kind to run in heels and wear expensive trousers as
if they were denim jeans. With an eclectic mix in clothing, she wears
items that look good and are comfy, but never sacrifices comfort for
vanity.
Her hair is short, flying and a soft pale brown color that she doesn’t really like. The only reason she grows her hair is that otherwise, it would be too cold and she hates wearing hats anyways. With no tattoos or piercings of any kind, she’s actually quite the coward when it comes to things like that and prefers to have herself clothed rather than running around half naked. Personality: She’s actually quite odd. At first glance she appears very aggressive, somewhat sulky and a rebel however that’s only because her lips are fat and her brows thick and arched. Very quiet and somewhat serious, she doesn’t like to be bothered by people and if you would please, please just leave her alone! Preferring to spend time with her own company and with non responding (at least in words) living creatures, she’s a bit antisocial and gets uncomfortable if she has to deal with it. She’s a little bit lazy, a little bit vain but laziness always wins over, which is a bad thing. Although she is more than average in intelligence, she doesn’t try which means she’s no better than your average human. With no special gifts to speak of, she doesn’t suffer from jealousy and isn’t very mean either. But only because she can’t get herself so worked up. Her Story “… to the end of—“ she mumbled the words, singing just slightly off key as she tugged the corners of dust out of the shadows of the room. The broom was large and old fashioned, new with the fresh glint of wood that made it look as appropriate as the shiny wooden nymphs posing on the marble columns. Moving with care but also speed, she was confident, having swept this room plenty of times before but also with the knowledge that she wasn’t going to knock things over by accident. “Augustine.” A voice said, exasperated. “You do not need to clean. We have machines doing that, you know.” The voice belonged to a tall and slender androgynous creature with feline eyes and black hair. “You disrupt their work habits.” “I felt like it.” She mumbled, not needing to reduce the volume because she could hear him fine, really. Sweeping through, she stopped. “Shy.” She said, acknowledging him. “I need something to do in this place.” Shy smiled. “I could give you many things to do.” He said. He was a genetic scientist who controlled the underground cities of the Vella Crean. Ever since the world had closed to outside inhabitants, the knowledge of this world was scant. No one knew much about it, except that Shy and his creature’s lived here, untouched by the violence wrecked above. “I know.” She replied, ignoring him. “But I feel better doing something useful.” “Augustine.” He said again. She was so stubborn sometimes, always in tune with her moods and doing what ever it took to get herself content. It was usually odd little twitches such as this, something eccentric that had her sweeping a gleaming hallway, brushing the coat of a dragon who was taken care of every half day. “It’s Gee.” She said, absentminded as she put her broom away. No one really used the human instruments, they were really decoration themselves. But Shy kept them around because he could always count on someone like Gee to come along. “Gee.” He said, acknowledging her change in name as he smiled. “Why don’t we go along? We’ll have tea in one of the beautiful rooms, and you can tell me just what it is that is bothering you.” “It makes me feel human.” She mumbled. Shy paused. “Gee?” he asked, ignoring the words because while both knew that he had heard them, it was not time now to discuss something so sensitive. Gee sighed. “Let’s go to my room.” She said. “I have someone bringing in food for you, because I was going to bring it by anyways.” Shy had a sweet tooth beyond measure, but people like Gee people who had lived with him forever understood this and moved almost subconsciously to ease his cravings. “Very well.” Shy said, and smiled. “You are, completely human.”
“But I don’t feel it.”
***
Her rooms, really a small
apartment underground with wide windows looking out into absolute space
was large and airy, speaking of the freedom that she might have had
above ground. Gee loved her rooms, the two bedrooms, the study and the
large bathroom that she had requested especially for the tub that was
really like a small pool.
“Come in.” she said, motioning to where an eccentrically formal tea set, table and chairs waited in the center of the room. “I’ll make tea.” Shy smiled. “I’ll do it.” He demurred, motioning for her to get something else. Maybe food. “Gee.” He started. Gee looked up from the fridge. “What is it?” “You are human, you know. I never created you. Or had a role in your making.” Gee looked surprised that he was still mentioning it. But she was glad. “I know.” She was a very private person who hated to confess things like this, things that she preferred to leave in wraps. “I know my parents were just one of the riders to volunteer for my safety, for you to let me stay here, but…” she shrugged. Sure there were humans down here, but she still felt… odd. If all your playmates from birth happen to be golden-eyed beautiful creatures, eventually you feel less human. Shy watched her. The tea was steeping, fragrant strong tea, just the way she liked it. “Would you like to go somewhere else?” he asked. Gee shrugged. “I don’t think about it. I’m human. I’ll die eventually; I’m not heroic enough to leave an impact. Maybe the end will come before I figure out what I want to do.” “Gee.” The note in his voice was so disapproving that she had to smile. “Just baiting you.” She said, as if this explained everything. “I don’t think about it. I’m surrounded by enough that you think by now I would know what I want to do. If I wanted to join the ranks of the soldiers, work behind or even spend the rest of my life surrounded by pretty things.” She shrugged again, bringing out the cake and the matching plates and utensils. “Do you want to go somewhere else?” he asked again, knowing that he had to because of the way her brain worked. “I’m not lazy, Shy.” She said, serious as she sat down in front of him, putting the larger and sweeter morsel in front of the scientist. “I’m not waiting for life to get interesting.” I’m just not lacking in anything
to want.
The next day, Gee was dressed in something white. It was only important
because some water creature she was having lunch with decided to pull
her into the water with her, and everyone knows that human girls do not
step out of the water wearing wet white clothing.*** And so, in her mind it made sense that instead she would stay in the water. It was warm, simulating the ocean and to all degrees it was the ocean, a little chunk copied from some part of the world and bought into the never-ending dimensions of Shy’s Cities. “Gee.” Shy said, leaning over her with a fluffy white towel. He did not seem to mind to get his own expensive cheongsams wet, and instead rubbed her down briskly himself, holding her close to make sure that all the water was kept off. “You should have called.” Gee looked down at her skin. Humans were so fragile to go so knotty because of the water. “I was fine.” She said, and smiled. “But I’m glad that you came for me.” Shy’s smile was indulgent. Reaching for a thick robe made up of something rather like hot air, she slipped into it’s dark green mass sighed. It had started to get a little bit tiring, to be floating in water for so long… “I received word from a friend of mine.” He said lightly, moving her alone to where the steam baths were. Gee followed docilely. While she was independent herself, sometimes she would rather follow someone else’s actions. “Oh?’ Gee smiled, amused. Although Gee had three or four really close friends everyone knew that Shy often had ‘friends’ who wanted nothing more than to get away from him. “He’s discovered a new world.” Gee paused, tilting her head and stopped in front of the steam room. “Do you want me to go there?” she asked. Shy looked at her. “Do you want to go?” he retorted. She paused, giving his question serious thought, and shrugged. “I don’t mind going.” She said. Everyone knew Shy sent people off on visits, either to bond, sponsor or even track down people and objects. Sometimes cake. “But don’t get high hopes.” At his questioning look, she shrugged and turned around. She was one of few words. “I’m not going to get my hopes
up because it hurts more when they’re bought down. So I don’t want you
to be the same.”
She was practical, she was. *** It turned out that Gee was
supposed to go to a place called Mirus, or near there and to see the
dragons. Shy had not seen one of their dragons before, and was curious
to see if he could use them, adapt them and if they had any special
traits that would merit being copied. Of course, Gee did not wholly
approve of stealing DNA from ‘donators’, but Gee did it because it was
fun, exciting and she loved doing the preliminary research.
Where the dragons were, it was much colder than she had expected. The people and dragons themselves were normal, or rather compared to the denizens of the Vella Crean, more human. Gee liked it here, and when she wasn’t busy sketching the dragons, marveling at how furry they were compared to the ones back home, she was often found with the locals, trying to get more information about this whole dragon thing. She was no stranger to bonding, to dragons but she was interested to see why these dragons were being encouraged to bond. Every place had their own special reasons, even if it was just because of the tradition of it. A long time ago, the Vella Crean had bonded dragons as well, but now it was rare enough that no one liked to think of the good old days. ‘Two people are waiting for these dragons to hatch, or something.’ Gee wrote to Shy. She was not completely sure to the terms that these people used, and so she spoke to something she herself could understand. ‘They are odd, fascinating creatures and I’m right by the locals when I stare at them. You would think, with the ‘brothers and sisters’ being golden eyed I would be used to it, but I am not. It is much colder here, so I am thinking of buying some of those coats. But I don’t know if I’ll be able to wear fur coats when the animals themselves are furry. What if—‘ Gee stopped. No. She was just being silly. ‘It seems that the dragons only have three days in which they must be bonded, and it is more complex and… sophisticated I guess, than what we have at home. The riders will need to teach their dragons to speak, they are really like little children and it is really, really cool.’ Gee decided it was okay to slip into colloquialism. After all, she was only writing to Shy. ‘I’m having fun, really. This
place is like so many of the other worlds, but not. I think maybe I
would like to do this. To travel the worlds and see everything, to
compare it all. Because you know, humans live for such a tiny amount of
time. I’d rather be selfish and do what I want to do, than something
others want me to do.’
*** Gee had slept in the morning
the two potential hopefuls had bonded their own dragons, and so she had
missed the original thrull of happiness and excitement. But she had
only slept in until midday, and that was soon enough for her to see the
little hatchlings.
She had seen hatchlings, before. She was no new comer to the dragooning world or to babes, and yet there was something so much more vulnerable about them that she was caught staring with such a look in her eyes that people teased her. “Gee.” Someone retorted. “Why don’t you go for them yourself? If you don’t succeed as a Hopeful, you don’t succeed. But…” Gee looked over, and smiled. No. She was no a pessimist, but she knew better than to… “We’ll have to teach them to speak, and feed them as well.” Someone was saying, and Gee walked over, listening in. “With bottles of milk.” The other laughed. “They will really be like little babies.” Bottles of milk? A couple of hours later (or what counted as hours) Shy got a message. “Signing up as a Potential
Hopeful. Update you later.”
***
Eventually of course, Gee would
blame it on there being not enough time. She had gone to speak to
N'theran about bonding and she found herself following him back into
the Nests. Gee entered, and while she had been in here just a while
ago, she was a little more wary now, a little more... scared? If that
was the word.
If that was the emotion she would admit to, at any rate. Touch the dragon. Wait for it to react. She had heard how this was supposed to happen, knew that it was something like this that had led to the bondings of the two others. But this was her now, and so in her mind it was different. She needn't have worried. The brass she had been drawn to seemed to react, yipping and looking up at her. For a moment, Gee panicked. Maybe she shouldn't do this after all? Maybe she should take it all, and just stay in the corner? She didn't know if she could... 'Food?' The link was a weak one. She knew this much because back at home, riders had spoken of how powerful it could get. This was weak, but as she felt around the edges of her mind, she knew it was going to grow stronger eventually. And it was warm. "Food." Gee said, smiling as she nodded down at the female Brass. "S'nalya." she said, pronouncing the words so that it was a long his and a purr of the nalya. S'nalya, and she wasn't going to try to pronounce everything else until she got it right. "I'll make you proud." The hatchling looked up at her curiously, understanding what she was saying but with a hatchling's guileless eyes, finding it rather amusing anyways. "You'll be with the two others." N'theran explained. "We'll move your things, and you'll follow them. If you have any questions though..." Gee nodded, but she wasn't paying attention. She could do that later. But now? Now was just for her and this dragon... ***
"Mrwah?" With a look of
confusion and of annoyance, S'nalya rolled over, getting to her legs in
a half sitting, half leaning fashion as she tried to look at what her
bonded was doing. "Mrwah?" she echoed again.
***Gee smirked. "I'll be there in a second." she promised, penning the last words to her letter before sending it off. She knew Shy would want to know what she had been up to, and it was good excuse as any to practice writing. It had been six months since she had bonded with this creature, a Mirus dragon who seemed more like a human baby than the large, regal creatures which stalked the lands. But Gee loved the baby more than the adult -although that would probably change after her thousandth feeding- and enjoyed going through the whole feeding process every day. She kept Shy up to date on what she was doing, on the dragon's physicla developments and anything else that came to mind as well. She was enjoying her classes, and while she was growing closer with S'nalya with every day that passed, she was also discovering more of S'nalya's personality as well. And...well, just how lazy she could be. "S'nalya." she said, rolling her eyes. "I know you can speak." S'nalya made a face. "Party Pooper." she said, getting up and yawning. "I'm tired." Gee smirked. "From what? Your thirteen hour nap?" S'nalya frowned, but Gee only steadily continued to stare at her bonded. "Make fun of me now." she sniffed. "But when I become the greatest brass in all of Mirus--" Gee laughed. S'nalya was an easy going dragon. That much was obvious, and that she also had a wry sense of humor as well. Capable of keeping up with her other siblings, she wouldn't be a good leader (from what Gee could see) because S'nalya enjoyed questioning the rules and whether or not she actually HAD to do something, too much. But she was fun, and when S'nalya could be bothered to move, rather admirable. "We'll be taking classes soon, you know." Gee pointed out, and S'nalya nodded. "Magic, flighting." S'nalya paused, looking back and flapping her wings, and then she smiled. "It will be exciting." she whispered. Gee smiled as well. She loved flying, and because she also liked taking care of S'nalya, she knew it would be fun as well. Gee frowned. "How do they teach dragons to fly, anyways?" S'nalya looked back, and Gee missed the look of wry amusement as she said. "Well, the rider climbs onto the dragon's back, they're pushed off a cliff and..." at Gee's growing look of horror, S'nalya laughed, affectionatly wrapping her tail around her bonded's legs. "Stupid." she said fondly. Gee snorted. "Meanie." she said, running her fingers through that short mane of hair. "I'll get you back." S'nalya nodded. "Of course you will." she drawled, and yawned. "But let's go lie in the sun for a while, because the heat like this never lasts for a long time." [View Fledgling Image] [View the Hatchling Image] Name: S'nalya ty Nuanal Alamyr Bonded to: Augustine 'Gee' Black Gender: Female Colour: Brass Size: 61' Personality: S'nalya is both typical and very atypical of a Brass dragon; at a first glance, she's very relaxed and calm, giving off a kind of mellow nature that seems very stereotypical of her colour. She's fairly intelligent, too, although really she's far too relaxed to really exert herself. Suffice to say, S'nalya is actually very lazy, and her relaxed nature is really just a reflection of that. It's very easy to appear calm when one is too lazy to do anything else. She could be a good leader, if she wanted to, but she considers that to be entirely too much effort. Much better to simply relax and enjoy life.
