THE CHICAGO INSIGNIA
The ship's insignia symbolizes the tradition and strength present in the Guided Missile Cruiser USS CHICAGO (CG-11).
The stripes and the sheaf of wheat are taken from the municipal seal of the city of Chicago and represent the national spirit of Chicago in an environment of productivity.
The electron orbits and the missile in flight symbolize the electronic technology and the computerized weapons systems of CHICAGO.
The symbol above shows the ensignia with gold anchors on a blue stripe but the anchors were later replaced with four white stars that represented the four commissioned careers of ships bearing the name of CHICAGO that can be seen in the picture next to the patch. This can also be seen in the picture of the metal plaque above as well.
