  • Dorman, MWC keeps Regional hopes alive with 3-2 win
    The Eagles ended their season on a high note with a 3-2 win over ODAC regular season champion Virginia Wesleyan. Senior 3B
    Erik Dorman was the story for the Eagles, pitching a complete game 7-hitter for the win. Dorman struck out 4 and allowed only 1 earned run for his 4th win of the year. The game was tied going into the 9th after an MWC error allowed the tying run to score. The Eagles put 2 runners on to start the inning and Junior 3B Steve Hastings, playing third in place of Dorman, singled to right for the game winning run. At the plate, Dorman was 2-4 with an RBI to pace the Eagles offense. Senior C Brendan Eygabroat added 2 hits.   • 5 Eagles names All-Conference, 4 on the first team
    Mary Washington's regular season title and runner-up finish in the conference tournament vaulted 5 Eagles players into All-Conference honors. The Eagles placed 4 players on the first team and 1 on the second team. Senior C

  • MWC adds make-up game with Methodist College
    MWC has reached an agreement with Methodist College to make up an earlier rained out game on the 4th of May. MWC enters the contest as the 7th seed and Methodist the 5th seed in South Region with both needing quality wins down the stretch to earn a regional berth. The Eagles play 3 more games, 2 againist South Region ranked teams and another aganist 1999 National Champion NC Wesleyan. MWC enters the weekend games 25-8 and 3 wins shy of the schools record for wins of 28 set in '94 and '97. Both these teams competed in the South Region Tournament.

  • Senior C Brendan Eygabroat named CAC Player of the Week
    For the third straight week, a MWC player has been named CAC Player of the Week. This week,
    Brendan Eygabroat was honored after leading the Eagles to five wins in seven games. Eygabroat hit .478 (11-23) with two doubles, a triple, and a go-ahead home run against Salisbury State on Thursday.     After 4 games in the last two days, MWC was back at it again today and picked up their 25th win of the season, defeating Dixie Conference Shenandoah University 14-1 today in a shortened game due to the mercy rule. MWC jumped out quick with 5 runs in each of the first 2 innings, fulled by the bats of Senior 1B
    Jay Johnston who was 2-4 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Senior 3B Erik Dorman and Freshman DH Corey Templeman added 2 hits.   • Eagles force final game but fall in CAC Tourney Final
    MWC entered the day needed 2 wins to win the Capital Athletic Conference title for the first time since 1998. The Eagles responded in Game 1 defeating Salisbury 4-1 behind the left arm of Junior LHP
    Reed Shabman who pitched 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing only 2 hits and 1 run. Junior RHP Ryan Grue came on and got the final 6 outs for his MWC single season record 4th save. Senior 3B Erik Dorman led the offense with a 2-5 effort, driving in 2. In Game 2, the Eagles put a run up in the first behind an RBI single by Erik Dorman. Salisbury picked up an unearned run in the 1st behind a throwing error by Eagles starter Senior RHP Mike Parker who pitched into the 5th and received the loss in the game. Parker allowed 6 hits and 4 runs, 2 earned in the game. Down 4-1, Freshman RHP Brendan Orsinger entered the game and pitched the rest of the game without allowing a run. MWC battled back in the 8th, scoring a run on a RBI single by Senior 1B Jay Johnston who was 2-4 in the game. The Eagles put runners on in the 9th but couldnt plate the tying runs. The Eagles fell behind 2-1 after 2 in the second elimination game of the day for the Eagles before Junior LF Scott Chapman grounded out scoring Junior SS Mark McEathron who singled earlier the inning. MWC tacked on 3 more in the 5th behind RBI singles by Dorman, Senior C Brendan Eygabroat, and Senior 1B Jay Johnston. Each team added a run for the final score of 6-3.   • MWC to host CAC Tournament starting Thursday
    As the top seed in the 2001 Capital Athletic Tournament, Mary Washingotn will host the conference tournament at Dickinson Stadium starting on Thursday at 3:30. The Eagles will open the tourney aganist the winner of the 4th and 5th seeded teams to be played Wednesday.   • MWC wins CAC regular season with DH split with York
    The Eagles played an all-around stellar game in the first of the double-dip with a 7-2 win over York College. MWC starter Junior RHP
    Ryan Grue pitched a complete game 4 hitter for the Eagles, striking out 7. The Eagle offense scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th and added a 4 spot in the 6th to cap the game. Sophomore CF Aaron Altscher led the offense going 2-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored in the conference regular season clincher. The Eagles could not complete the sweep in Game 2, falling 7-1. The game featured 10 pitchers combined from both teams and lots of runners left on base. The Spartans banged out 14 hits which was helped by 4 MWC errors.   • MWC holds on to CAC lead, split with Salisbury State
    MWC held its 1 game lead in the CAC title race with a saturday split with Salisbury State, winning the first game in 13 innings 5-4, then falling in the second game 4-2. The Eagles entered the 7th inning of Game 1 down 4-3 after some early pitching and defensive woes. Junior SS
    Mark McEathron blasted a home run over the scoreboard to tie the game. Eagle relievers Junior RHP Ryan Grue and Junior RHP Bronson Hall held the Gulls bats silent for the rest of the game until Sophomore RF Drew Robertson blasted a homer to left in the top of the 13th for the lead. Hall finished the game for his 3rd win of the year. In Game 2, the Eagles fell 4-2 despite a 7th inning rallying leaving the tying runs on base at the end of the game which was the Eagles story of Game 2.
