July 25th "A Fiber Art Path -- Transition from Traditional to Innovative Quilts. The presenter is Donna Clauer from Ocean City, NJ. Donna's love for quilting comes from her mother's Pennsylvania Dutch ancestors. In 1997 she began to explore "surface design" techniques and incorporate them into her quilts. Starting with a "canvas" of 100% cotton, Donna uses brushes, sponges, and acrylics to paint her center image. Borders are added and the assembled top is layered as a quilt. Raw edge piecing gives texture to the piece, and thread sketching enhances detail while adding color. Stitching through the layers creates highlights on the loft as well as subtle shadows in the valleys. Join us as Donna describes her journey with a trunk show of quilts and memories.
