| Q: What if I want to try out, but don't know how to do any flag work? A: Don't worry about it, there is no experience necessary! Typically, clinics run for 4 days during which time you will be taught basic flag work and the routine you will need to know for your actual tryout. We don't expect perfection at the end of 4 days, but those days gives us enough time to determine if you can catch on throughout the season. Q: When is the Color Guard season? A: The Color Guard is a part of the Marching Band; which coincides with football season. Our season starts at the beginning of June and continues through the middle of November. Q: What is the size of the line? A: The size of the line will be limited to 16 team members. Q: Where does the Color Guard perform? A: The Color Guard performs with the marching band at every home and most away Varsity football games, various school activities including pep rallies and assemblies, and participates in competitons held throughout the season. Q: If I make the team, what is expected of me? A: Teamwork, dedication, commitment, and involvement. Being on the Color Guard is a big time commitment, but not nearly the overwhelming time commitment some people make it out to be. In addition to performing, we have early morning practices with the band 5 days a week and 2-3 afterschool, weekend, and/or evening practices a week as a line. We also practice during the summer, including a full week of Guard Camp and 2 weeks of Band Camp. The amount of time we invest in Color Guard is about the same as the time spent by most of our athletic teams. Q: Is there a cost to being on the Color Guard? A: Although cost should never be a determining factor in trying out for the line, as a member of the line there are uniform, equipment, and game day financial responsibilities. The team does many fundraisers to keep the cost down as much as possible for each member. Q: What's in it for me? A: Being a member of the MVHS Color Guard is an experience that will provide you with memories that you will treasure for the rest of your life. You will learn things about yourself that you couldn't learn any other way. You'll have more fun than you could ever imagine.
