Mount Vernon Civic Association General Membership meetings

Tuesday - March 7th, 2000 - 7:00 PM - Woodley Hills Elementry School - 8718 Old Mount Vernon Road

Special Civic Association Meeting

Special Meeting on the proposed South County Center:

The County is trying to "REVITALIZE" our neighborhood by destroying it!!!!! The new "South County Government Center" is not going to be placed in a blighted or underutilized area as the RFP had required - Instead it is going to be put in an open area with trees and townhouses.

The citizen's associations in the impacted area are being ignored in this rush to decision. It is unfair to bus in "outsiders" to stack the deck while ignoring the opposition. There is conflicting information being circulated about the true role of this center. I quote from Col. Downie's newsletter "...... This is to provide us easier access to County services and keep some of the county's focus ($$) on us, versus just the western part of the county....." You have received a detailed letter from Don Hamlin, President of Mount Vernon Farms Citizen's Assn. about the impact and I have not heard of any response from you or Mr. Hyland (I hope I am wrong). According to Don Hamlin this is ONLY a "social services" center. Is this true? What "County services" will be provided to the local communities?"
