Formed: 1995, incorporating Algoa Regional Services Council and Camdeboo Regional Services Council.
Reorganised: 2000, into Cacadu District Council; a small part of it was attached to Nelson Mandela Metropole.
These arms may be blazoned:
Or, semy of crosslets humetty gules, a pale wavy azure charged with a shovel or; upon a chief azure an eight-spoked wheel between two anchors or.
Crest: the caravel São Gabriel with sails set bearing the cross of the Order of Christ, the main mast bearing a banner of the arms of Portugal.
Mantling: Or and azure.
Motto: Deo adjuvante labor profecit (With the help of God we will profit from our labour).
About the arms and the council:
The arms were taken over directly from the Algoa Regional Services Council, without any changes, even though the new council also incorporated most of the area of the Camdeboo Regional Services Council.
The council was initially called the Western Region District Council, since it made up the western part of the Eastern Cape Province, but the name was shortened after a while to Western District Council.
