THE CONFEDERACY OF EIRENNIA SCOTIA

Introduction

Hibernian independence and neutrality has been a long-standing point of pride and tradition, and Hibernia has had no involvement in any world conflict.

Much of Hibernia’s past is shrouded behind ancient folklore, legend, and religious narrative. Archaeologists believe that the first human settlements in Hibernia were made relatively late in prehistory, about 5200 B.C. Hibernia’s original inhabitants were classic Middle Stone Age (Mesolithic) hunter-gatherers who used stone implements. Later, about 3000 B.C., they evolved into classic Bronze Age (Neolithic) people who cultivated crops, raised domestic animals and made weapons, tools, and jewelry out of bronze. At the same time they fine-tuned their stone implements (such as stone axes that were mass produced and traded abroad). Starting about 2000 B.C., they built the massive stone sanctuaries and tombs ("megaliths") that still dot the countryside. By the 1st Century B.C., Hibernia, as well as the surrounding lesser islands, came under the control of a dominant tribe called the Pretani, a Neolithic people described in Hibernian folklore as the "Fir Bolg.’

The modern inhabitants of Hibernia first arrived in 300 B.C. and called themselves the Milesians.  Archaeological evidence indicates that the initial migration was small in number. By 220 B.C. the migration increased significantly and by 100 B.C. the Milesians had absorbed the Pretani culture.  The Milesians culture has survived through to the present time in relative isolation. The fundamental unit of Hibernian society is the tuatha. A tuatha is a loose collection of family clans usually with a common territorial bond. At the peak of the tuatha system, approx. 1050 A.D., there where as many as 150 tuathas for a population of less than 500,000. Each tuatha remained fiercely independent and acted autonomously. This system of small tribal units lasted well into the nineteenth century and remains a strong influence in modern Hibernian government. Indeed, there has been a strong resistance throughout Hibernian history to a strong centralized government, and an insistence on a loose confederation of small units of government.

During the global industrialization of the 20th century Hibernia found its resources and culture under potential attack from foreign interests. In 1948, the first agreement of tuathas, called The Hibernian Alliance, aimed at providing a means for common defense of the island. This Alliance opened the door to the possibility of a nation- state. In 1883 the tuathas surrounding Avalon swore allegiance to James Mac Guinness and the first Hibernian state came into existence. The Avalon state was unable to extend its authority beyond St. Padraig. Over the course of the next fifty years, four other localized states formed.  In 1966, the tuatha Chiefs of the four states met at Avalon and finalized the five divisions of Hibernia. The agreement allowed for five autonomous states: Cimarron, Gallia, Kerry, St. Padraig, and St. Bernard. Under the agreement, the High Council would meet at Avalon to discuss common issues of the Hibernain Isles. The Agreement of Five was the single greatest step towards a unified Hibernian nation-state. The Agreement of Five lasted a total of 140 years and saw the industrialization of Hibernia.

Developments of the outside world left Hibernia only further isolated. On June 17th 2103, the 137th anniversary of The Agreement of Five, each state chief met at Avalon to discuss the possibility of a unified Hibernian nation- state.  After months of talks and great effort the Constitution of the Eirennia Scotia Confederacy was accepted by all five states.  On January 15 2105, the five independent states of Hibernia became the Confederacy of Eirennia Scotia.  Eirennia Scotia looks develop bonds with her fellow Aurora nations, however, retains a strong commitment to neutrality and peace.
