| This Is Leslie, My Girlfriend. I met her on a blind date on Saturday, February 15, 2003. I'd like to think we hit it off almost instantly. Our next date was the next day. We went to the Mercury Cafe in Denver, where she competes in Poetry Slams. (If you don't know what they are, read on...) We were set up by a mutual friend of ours, Lisa, (She is engaged to marry my best friend Oliver, And I've known Lisa since my Freshman year in High School. Leslie works with Lisa at Sunshine Learning Center, an early childhood learning center.) Usually blind dates don't go so well, you're either set up with a total dog, or there is absolutely no attraction at all. Luckily in our case the opposite transpired. I was attracted to her a little at first, but my attraction grows more and more as our relationship progresses. A Slam is almost like a poetry reading, but instead of the whole snapping fingers and hippies, it's made for the people. A poet will have to write a good poem, and as well perform it enough for the audience to like it. The host (changes each week) has people in the audience volunteer to be judges. So you have to write a poem that they will love. Most of it is based on shock value, using Vulgar words, or very, very descriptive words, help too. (but if you have a really good poem then you might have a chance) Most of it is free-verse poetry, but I would like to perform a rhyming poem to see how well I can fare. (for a taste of my poems go to my 3DY page) |

| Leslie Renee Moniot - What words can describe this Modern Day Cleopatra? The first few that come to mind have the tone of beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, stunning, and striking. These words wouldn't even touch the surface of truth, she's more than these. Then my thoughts go a little deeper. Lovely, delightful, charming, wonderful, pleasing, and magnificent. Yet, these seem to be demote her status, she's above these words too, so I continue to peruse the thesaurus. I go deeper still: Intelligent, bright, smart, gifted, poetic, and clever. Still there is something missing, these words don't seem to be enough. I take a look at them, these words, none seem to really fit, she becomes more than words can describe. She transcends the vocabulary of american english, She could make a harvard scholar lose his words. So imagine an Average joe like me. What words can desribe this modern day cleopatra? If you'd have asked me, I'd tell you that a word doesn't exist. A word can't describe her. That wouldn't be fair, It wouldn't do her justice. |
