Sherwood & Mochrie Interview Con'd
BR: How did you get onto Whose Line Is It Anyway? and what advice would you give to someone who wants to get into the business?
CM: Get out! <All Laugh> Who needs it? No, but I was in Second City in Toronto and the producers were doing a cross-country audition tour, and so I basically auditioned and got in through that and over the years they got more confidence in me and started using me more. I think, Brad, you came in shortly right after that?
BS: Yeah, I was Ryans [Styles] understudy at Second City and the producer was coming into town to audition people and said that I should come down to audition and so I did and got on the show.
DB: So did you have any comedic role models when you were growing up?
BS:  Yeah, theyre SO old though <Turns to Colin> Tim Conway, Art Carney, Don Knots were three of my favorites, but now you can only see them now on Nick at Nite and TV Land!
CM: I can go back even farther. I loved the old Jack Benny Shows, Dick Van Dyke, Don Knots, the Monty Python guys?
BS: Oh yeah, Monty Python!
CM: --Peter Sellers, but Id say the most I got from was probably John Cleese.
BR: Whats the best part of doing a college show?
CM: The audiences love us! The audiences have been great; especially for the kind of show we do theyre such an important part of the night and if you have an audience tat just sits there, its hell. The college audiences are so up and theres a nice playfulness between us and the audience and among everyone
BS: College audiences are just more excited overall and they havent paid huge amounts of night club or comedy club money, or theater ticket money to be there so theyre not adults who have babysitters who sit there <crosses arms> and says Alright, you better make me laugh. Or if theyre in a comedy club and theyve had a few drinks now you have to make them laugh and get it through their slightly drunk brain.
CM: College students arent usually drunk when they come to these things, which is nice too.
BS: Yes, exactly. So thats why the show ends early. <All Laugh>
