mirror eyes

empty, glass eyes
of unfeeling clarity
and relentless criticisms
speak volumes and refuse to look away
fire and ash eyes--
eyes that can burn holes in me
will stroke the calloused burns
of last nights' fights
and i will shudder under your
watchfulness
i cannot face myself
the way your eyes face me
i avert attention to
forms without focus
i hold back salt tears
from staining my cheeks
i am fearing the certainty of
your mirror eyes,
the reflections of self
you look in without blinking
