Apollo Health Music Society is a music society which predominantly attracts health sciences related students. It was founded in 2002 by a group of 2nd yr medical students who were enthused by a small travelling troupe of Portugese Medical Students who entertained and raptured a crowd in the Sunderland Theatre. This invigorating performance highlighted something that the University of Melbourne Medical School and the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences serverely lacked: a focal point for Health Sciences students to gather and pursue their musical interests. Apollo has flourished in the pursuit of two main goals: Firstly, to unite students together in their musical interests, and thus add to the diversity of student life at Melbourne University, and, of course, make some great music! Secondly, to use this musical talent to promote health through music, through charity concerts at the end of each academic semester, and performances at nursing homes and hospitals in metropolitan Melbourne as well as in rural areas within Victoria. All of the Apollo events are open to the public, and any support is greatly appreciated. For more information see Upcoming Events. |
