Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Lyrics and information

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
How I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high
Like a diamond in the sky
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
How I wonder what you are

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” by the English writers Ann Taylor and Jane Taylor was published in 1806; its familiar music is a setting by Mozart of an old French tune.

Nursery Rhyme

Nursery rhymes entertain young children, and usually teach a lesson as well. The simple verses are part of an oral tradition which passed them on from older generations to younger generations. Often nursery rhymes borrow appealing musical phrases to complement the rhyme schemes. Ann Taylor and Jane Taylor wrote “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” in the early 19th century, and the rhyme’s music comes from a Mozart adaptation of an early French tune.

The melody itself comes from the traditional French folk song, "Ah! vous dirai-je maman".
