Ceremonial Robes
On May Day, I had the opportunity to admire some dramatic, neo-pagan ceremonial garb: crushed velvet capes, fluttering sleeves, floaty gowns, nickel jewelry. It... injured my dignity. Homely goth is to ritual attire as liquid white-out is to nail lacquer. Considering that uniforms are a meaningful token of identity and gravitas... giving a nod to the history of habits being la mode when they were fashioned... and accommodating a dreaded love of crushed velvet... ...I suggest the tracksuit. Perhaps one of those Juicy Couture outfits in a light blue velour. You could throw in a scapular. Summer 2003
