"After Sacramento poet Kimberly White wrote the poems , "Penelope" and "After the Return", she produced her first chapbook,
Penelope. In this imaginative time-shifting account, White narrates interior thoughts of Penelope, legendary wife of Odysseus, King of Ithaca and  wondering Greek champion of the Trojan War. Weaver Penelope is not helpless but a lonely Queen awaiting her husband's return from war for twenty years. Busy as a shrewd managing his assets, Penelope's  cherished lover, Hermes, their son Pan, helped keep her passionate existence of devoted paganism and witch-doctoring alive, yet divinely vulnerable and stronger than portrayed in Greek mythology or poetry."

The 1st edition of the chapbook
Penelope was first published by Kimberly in 2002 at 30 pieces. The second edition of Penelope was printed in 2004. You may order her chapbook by email at [email protected].

Sample poems of Kimberly White will be featured in the Winter 2005 ed. of Muses Review.

Poem Review by Andrew C. Angus

Title of  poem:
'I Came Upon A Mountain"
Poet:
Mark Stellinga
Rating: 5 olives

Mark Stellinga's poem "I Came Upon A Mountain" was featured in the Fall 2004 ed. of Muses Review. The poem is about mountain climbing. This poem has 7 stanzas and is rhymed.

This poem reveals a grain of truth about life for those who wants to achieve a goal in life or fulfill a dream in life.

The 5th stanza and the 6th stanza states:

"As I embarked I pondered what a man might come to learn.
I wondered, would I reach the top or would I not return.

Plainly, I returned and yes, I made it to the top.
Though often nearly giving up, I'm glad I didn't stop."
The poem reveals there is an inner struggle or an inner psychological  conflict when a person tries to achieve his goals or dreams in life. The greatest obstacles  to one's persoanl struggle are psychological and physiological.

Psychological obstacles include discouragement, lack of motivation and  negative thoughts. Physiological obstacles include lack of energy or strength to endure one's personal struggle.

This poem will serve as inspiration to people who are on their way to achieve their goals or dreams in life. The poem reveals that success in life can be  a matter of choice, determination and right motiviation.

This poem is contained in Stellinga's book "Phonetical Imagery". This poem is nominated for the 2004 Muses Review Awards for Poetry as Best Poem of the Year 2004.

Blazing leaves, again, for Autumn,
