Paducah Main Street, Inc. to host 2nd Annual Bubble Q – A Party of Parties

Paducah, KY - Join Paducah Main Street, Inc. as the best of American BBQ meets the best of bubbly at the 2nd Annual Bubble Q, Friday, June 27, 2008. This year’s festivities will be held in the newly renovated Arcade property on the corner of 5th and Broadway.

The event will feature classic BBQ & pork loin sandwiches, BBQ chicken salad, Hot Smoked Salmon Mouse and more, prepared by Laura Duff, a Pampered Palate at Kirchhoff’s. Live music will be provided by the Murr-Vegas All Stars – Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with sleight of hand magic by Todd Duff and music begins at 7:30 p.m.!

There will also be several different parties up for auction, including a private party for 50 at the 14th Ever Barbecue on the River, 20 Tickets to a Southern Illinois Miners’ game including a tail gate party, or a Brushstrokes and Beverages party courtesy of Wildhair Studios to name a few.

May 21, 2008 -- A WORD FROM DREW - "Thursday's show at the Big Apple will be Joel Roberts' last show with Murr-Vegas. He has taken a teaching job in central Illinois and will be leaving the Murray area over the course of the summer. Joel has been with the band for almost four years, over which time he has proven himself not only a fine musician, but a powerful voice in the Murr-Vegas history. We wish Joel the best of luck in all his future endeavors, and welcome him to sit in with us anytime."    Tom Haley, music major at Murray State University, will be joing the ranks, taking over all saxophone duties.

May 20, 2008 -- GREAT NEWS!! Jonathan and his wife, Kate, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy today. Their son, Broady, arrived healthy at 7lbs and 18 inches long. To quote Lindsey, "Baby Broady is BEAUTIFUL!!!!  Mom and baby are healthy and doing great! The first "Son of Murr-Vegas" is born--how precious!"

March 9, 2008 -- Sorry to have been gone for so long, but sometimes computers crash and it just takes a while to get thing back in order. Anyway, here's what you've missed in the last five months. 

 In December, Collin Baker married his longtime girfriend, Taryn, in a lovely ceremony in Cadiz, Ky. Billy and Drew accompanied Stephen on a piece during the ceremony, while the entire band took the stage at the reception. Dean Hughes, drummer for Grumpy Old Men, sat in on drums for the occasion. Collin did play on a few tunes before leaving the country with his new wife. Good luck and besh wishes to the two of them!

 New Year's Eve at the Apple once again. It was a very awesome spectacle indeed, once again limiting most people to standing room only! Not to worry, everyone seemed to have a great time! 

 Starting out 2008, after a very busy Christmas season, the band decided to take a little break. However, they were imediately invited back to the Apple for a Mardi Gras themed show. Having been so successful with the New Orleans' flavored party in 2007, they band quickly accepted the invitation this time around. With the moderate success of that show, the band has decided to take all of February and March off, only meeting for a few scattered rehersals. They will be back on the scene quite shortly. Can't wait!

 

 

September 28, 2007 --  A message from Drew --

     "Hello everyone. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came to the show last night. Personally, I love doing shows where every age group can come hear us. I saw several young kids and teenagers checking us out. In this era of mundane music, where real musicians are sidelined and computers are the forefront of the entertainment industry, it's nice to see that there are at least some who enjoy live music. Also, It's great to see that friends and family traveled so far to see us. Our former drummer, and still my very good friend, Clint Jayroe was in the crowd with his wife to cheer us on. To be able to say we had people from Colorado there made it seem all the more real. I saw a friend I hadn't seen since 1994. He had been talking to his brother in Vancouver about seeing us. It hit me. There is someone on the west coast in Canada that was wishing me good luck! You don't get that everyday."

  "I love playing, whether it's for the local crowd or for people who have never seen us. Last night was just right. I saw familiar faces -  Mom, Dad, sister Stephanie, Dado, Joey, Kate,  Pam, Renee, Sue and Wayne, Dani, and Rick. I saw faces I haven't seen in years - Russ, Laura, Chris - the list could go on and on. It was a peak performance."

  "I don't know how far this thing will go, but I would love to play a show like that more often. The sound crew, the lighting crew, the weather - everything was on. It was perfect. Hopefully, I'll have some pictures of the show up soon. Again, thanks to everyone who was there. You have enabled me to live out my dream... night after night."

August 3, 2007 -- Remembering Michael - It's been four years since our good friend left us, and we all still miss him so very much. "Just the tip... just the tip!"

July 29, 2007 -- It's still a few months away, but make plans to be at BBQ On The River in Paducah, Ky on September 27, 2007 to check out your favorite local band, The Murr-Vegas All Stars! June 15, 2007 -- Murr-Vegas will headline the opening night of Freedom Fest in Murray, Ky. The evenings events will start at 5:30 P.M. with the Todd Hill Orchestra. Todd Hill is director of Jazz Studies at Murray State University and has sat in with Murr-Vegas on a few occasions. He has performed all over the country, entertaining audiences with his grand renditions of jazz and big band standards. Following the Todd hill Orchestra will be an accapella quartet from southern Illinois, BLEND. They perform doo-wop '50's classics and will be sure to entertain. Following BLEND, the Murr-Vegas All Stars will take the stage and rock the the night away. They will bring a tour de force which will hopefully leave everyone satisfied. 

      "It's not often these days that we get to play for the public for free - especially our whole show. We're doing this and the Paducah BBQ Festival (Sept. 27) so that hopefully everyone in the area will get a chance to have a really good time." Drew Collins said. "We do so many shows that not everyone of all ages can come see, so these are really special to me."

 

June 3, 2007 -- CONGRATULATIONS to Jonathan Light. He and his girlfriend Kate were married yesterday in Paducah, Ky with a small ceremony at a private location. It was such a remote location, a trolley was the only way to get there. Guests were shuttled from a public parking lot to the gorgeous backyard wedding and then taken straight back. A couple band members served in the wedding party, Billy- Groomsman, and Drew -Usher, while the rest of the band sat close by in support. A reception followed at Rolling Hills Country Club in Lone Oak, with the band as Master Of Ceremonies. They played two full sets, with Jonathan joining in on two songs. "It's really strange to hear the band from this side", he said, referring to hearing the band instead of playing in it, "but I'm so glad they're here to do this."

   Jonathan will return to the band soon, as well as his job as Assistant Band Director at Graves County High School when he returns from his honeymoon. Good luck to him and Kate in their new life. As Stephen put it at the reception, "Jonathan was the greatest roommate ever, and now he has found a permanent one!"

    

May 21, 2007 -- CONGRATULATIONS to Joel Roberts, who married his girlfriend Lee Ann on May 19. The service was held in Joel's hometown of Metropolis, Ill. The band played at the reception, including the groom on two songs. Joel also traded licks with his father, as both played impromptu blues on their saxes with Collin, Billy and Drew backing them up for close to ten minutes! It was a joyous occasion that we all were happy to be a part of. Here's to Joel and Lee Ann - many, many years of happiness!

  January 26, 2007 -- The band announced plans for their Marti Gras party to be held on February 15. Hosted by the Big Apple Cafe, there will be masks, beads and all sorts of other Marti Gras themes. The band will perform at 9:00 P.M. Checkout the UPCOMING SHOWS page for more details.

 January 16, 2007 -- Stephen's Birthday Bash was a huge success. There were a couple of moments that were very memorable -- Stephen proclaiming that he was just now turning twenty-one, Drew's tribute to Stephen by way of a solo performance of Kiss' "Rock And Roll All Nite" (he told a story about fraternity punishment, in which he made Stephen sing the same song to one of their college professors in 1995) and Todd Hill, Director of Jazz Studies at Murray State University, joining the band on piano for two songs.

  "We were playing a couple of songs that Scooter doesn't play on, and Todd just jumped up there and asked, 'What key are you in?' and just started playing! It was quite amazing,"  Drew remembers. "I wish every show was like that one."

November 9, 2006 -- Finally, a birthday and a show on the same night! What a party!! Everyone is invited to help us celebrate Stephen's birthday in style on Jan.11, 2007. The event will be held at The Big Apple Cafe, with Stephen leading the party the only way he knows how... with a two-and-a-half hour Murr-Vegas extravaganza! -August 30, 2006 -- The band is in the process of adding a new member to the band. Shaun "Scooter" Saulsberry will be sitting in with the band on keyboards. It will take a little time, but he will have all the band's music under his belt soon. Come see him, as he will definitely add a glorious color to the band's shape and sound.

-- August 3, 2006 -- We miss you Michael. It's been three years since the death of our co-founder and friend. Got a Rolling Rock anyone?

-- June 19, 2006 -- The band is preparation for a string of shows in the area that are guaranteed to be great - the first on June 30, the opening night of the Freedom Fest in Murray, Ky.  Murr-Vegas will open the festivities in downtown Murray by performing at the court square.  They will share the bill with another local favorite, Clarence Dobbins.  Next is a show on July 4th at the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center. They are scheduled to play on the terrace, just prior to the fireworks show.  They will finish their small run of shows back in Murray by playing the Big Apple on July 6th.  Anyone looking for a great time should come to any and all of these shows. It will be a great time!
