This webpage is devoted to the Arcanum RPG by Bard Games that was published in 1986!
It is still under construction and any additional information or comments are appreciated.

Arcanum was another RPG in the 1980s which focused on Sword & Sorcery and was similar to D&D but the setting was legendary Atlantis.  The beauty of the system lies in its simplicity and wide range of possibilities.
It was economical because there were only three books published.  The first was Arcanum, the core rule book.  The second was the Lexicon which detailed the pre-Diluvean Age of Atlantis.  The third book was the Bestiary, which was beautifully illustrated by Bill Sienciwicz.  The monsters and peoples that inhabited the Atlantean world were familiar and yet not corny.  There were goblins and trolls and even they could be certain character classes. too!
The core rule book Arcanum gave you the opportunity to play a wide range of races ( but no Halflings) and many different classes, ranging from alchemists to necromancers to warriors and witch hunters.  There were many differnet spell lists to choose from, also!  You could even create a character who could create magic weapons and potions rather than waiting for your GM to let you "find" them!
The rules are decent but simple so you don't get bogged down in rules, but there are enough that the sky is the limit on whom your character may become!
