    GUNUNG PALUNG NATIONAL PARK




    Description
    Gunung Palung region is fixed as National Park  on March, 24th  1990, with area 90,000 hectare. Geographically, that region lies on 10 00'- 1020 SL and 109000' - 110024' EM, and adminitratively surrounds Sukadana, Simpang Hilir and Sungai Laur sub district with in Ketapang regency. The region Gunung Palung National Park, has a various topography. From the gentle slope topography especially in beach area (O m asl) untuil steep topography reaches 1,116 m. This condition make it possible for existance of various kinds of vegetations, from littoral woodland forest until mountaint forest vegetation. Gunung Palung National Park includes in scope of work by Sub Unit Nature Conservation Development Project on West Kalimantan.



    Accessibility

    To reach Gunung Palung National Park from the Capital City of West Kalimantan can be done several ways :

    1. Travelling Ketapang

    2. Travelling Through Teluk Melano

    Potency of Tourism
    1. Sea/beach tourism, Pulau Datok beach and Bukit Lubang Tedong in The West Side of National Park which is directly stand opposite with Karimata strait, is centre area of Gunung Palung National Park tourism region.
    2. In Village along the jungtion of Matan river and Simpang river wil be found several archeological goods of local community.
    3. For those who found od adventure activity, can do climbing in Palung Mountaint (1,116 m asl) and Panti Mountaint (1,050 m). From the top of the mountaint, we can enjoy the view of the cities beneath like Telum Melano, Rantau Panjang, with along the course of the river which empty in to the Karimata strait. BIside that, several part of Gunung Palung and Gunung Panti can be found several waterfalls with interesting enough to look at.


    Equipment

    Before departing fo Gunung Palung National Park, it is suggested that visitor bring along these
    items :

    1. Cloting, Short and T-Shirt are asual wear but stacks long sleeves shirts and had/cap are recommended for protection agains sunburn and insect.
    2. Footwear, The rubber boots is recommended for protection against insect beside that in forest the trail can be very muddy and slippery after rain.
    3. Others, Some equipments that are recommended to bering are carrier, sleeping bag, mattress, tent medicine and logistics.

    Potency Of Natural Resource

     Potency of natural resources which makes this region has the special attractiveness is the existancy of complete types of ecosystem. From the type of littoral woodland forest vegetation, Mangrove forest, Fresh swamp forest, Lowland forest until Upland Forest. In each of type of that ecosystem is in habited by various kind of wild animal, among them is Primate class like Orang Utan (Pongo pygmaeus), Gibbon (Hylobates moloch), Bekantan (Nasalis larvatus), Leaf Monkey (Presbytis rubicunda) and Long Tail Macaque (Mcaca fascicularis). These animaaaal are often found on tree's canopy.

    The kinds of another animals which also can be found like Sloth (Nycticebous coucang), Small Bats (Rhinolopusluctus sp), Bat (Pteropus vampirus), Big squirrel (Ratufa offinis), Squirrel (Callosciurus nofatus), Honey Bear (Helarctos malayanus), Deer (Muntiacus muncak) Chevrotain (Tragulus napu). From the reptile class, Crocodile (Crocodylus sp), Biawak (Varanus sp), Turtle (Tortoidae) and Tortoise (Careta careta)



    The Superior Flora and Fauna

    Orang Utan  is one of the specific Fauna in this National Park wich only can found in Kalimantan and Sumatera island.
    Orang Utan has reddish hair but it does't have tail. In accordance with in age, the mature male unfold its cheek looks like cushion. Older in older the cushion becomes large so its face look territy. In Gunung Palung National Park it can be found easily in Research Station Cabang Panti.

    The Unique flora in this National Park is Black Orchid (Coelogyne pandurata). This orchid can lives on lowland only, with height 0 - 100 metres als, generally in can be growth in river bank. Its power of attraction is on the flower form - has green stem which combined with black pockmarked in the middle of flower. The above mentioned flora and fauna can be found easily around the Matan river in Gunung Palung National Park region.



    Management

    Gunung Palung National Park in 1996/1997 it is managed by West Kalimantan Nature Conservation development project by Sub Unit Conservation Resources of West Kalimantan.
     



    Facilities

    Facility that is prepared  in the region of Gunung Palung National Park :

    1. Research Station Cabang Panti which functioned as the centre or research activity in Gunung Palung National Park.
    2. Trail that exist in the location of Bukit Lobang Tedong tourism area.
    3. Shelters which are prepared in location of Bukit Lobang Tedong tourism area.
