Betung
Karihun or Bentuang Karimun is the largest national park in West Kalimantan
Province which covers an are 800,00 square kolometers situated in Kapuas
Hulu Regency. Being supported by ITTO - WWF in Management Plan.
This area is home to a vast array of flora with
Dipterocapacea families ; Jelutung (Dyera costulata), Pulai (Alstonia scholaris),
Belian (Eusideroxylon zwagen), Pelawan (Trisnania -sp), Cemara Gunung (Casuarina
junghunia-sp) (Nephente sp), Pandan (Pandanus sp) and Engkaras (Aqualaria
malacencis) known as the best produce for money earnes, and fauna, Rusa
(Cervus sp), Beruang Madu (Helarctos malayanus), Babi Hutan (Susbarbatus),
Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus), Owa/Kelempiau (Hylobates muelleri), Kera Ekor
Panjang (Macaca fascicularis), Enggang (Bucherotidae).
Visitors can easily view such fascinating species
as Orangutan , Kera Ekor Panjang, Beruang Madu, and even the official bird
of West Kalimantan, the Hornbill. This border reserve is accessible by
speedboat from Putussibau City via the Kapuas river 18 kilometers, Embaloh
river 11 kilometers and Sibau river 5 kilometers.
Local villagers can be found to provide guiding
services. Betung Karihun or Bentuang Karimun is home to larger selection

living in their traditional Longhouses which are easily viewed all long
the many rivers of the areas. These different goups generally live
by hunting, gathering forest products and swidden farming for their subsistence.
