Vinayagar was unsheathed fondly by Sakthi (Creative Energy). He is also known as Karpaga Vinayagar,Ganesha,Arasamalai Vinayagar,Ganapathy,Pillayar,Vigneshwara, and a host of other affectionate names.

As Ganapathy he acts as a pointer to the supreme truth. As Ganesha, he represents Perfection. As Vigneshwara, he removes all obstacles in the devotees paths. As Vinayagar, he is the son of Siva and Supreme Leader of the Multitudes.

The most important festival for him is Vinayagar Chathurthi which occurs in the month of Avani(August/September)
