       Yoga

The Better Way to Life It has been scientifically proven that practising Yoga leads to mental alertness, greater blood circulation, increases flexibility and a means to de-stress an individual. There are various types of Yoga that an individual can practise. Here at Muneeswaran Temple, we have been having Yoga classes ever since 1994, one of the pioneer Temples to commence yoga classes. Under the guidance of Yogi P Balakrishnan then, yoga classes hit instant success with enrolment of more than 80 students. Currently, Yogi A. Shanmuganathan, a former student of Yogi P Balakrishnan, who took up yoga lessons at our Temple, conducts the Yoga lessons.

Since the body has to be subtle to practise higher levels of Yoga, our Temple conducts Hartha Yoga classes. 40 different asanas (or positions) are practised at each of the sessions. Each yoga class commence with the 'Guru Namaskarasana' (ie. respect to the Heavenly Guru of Yoga or Lord Shiva and the Yogi). The rest of the asanas that follow aids in the removal of rigidity and brings flexibility to major joints and muscles of the body. It also stimulates the spinal nervous system and results in reduction of unnecessary fats.

Last but not least, some of the asanas also stimulates the functioning of both the male and female reproductive systems. Unlike other Yoga classes, ours is structured so much so that a Basic Course would last about 6 months. After which, a test would be conducted before the students advance to the Intermediary Stage.

To master the Intermediary stage about 52 weeks of guided practises would have to be carried out before the students advance to the Advance Stage. Yoga in general helps oneself to control one's mind and body, and not let the mind control oneself.
(Yoga classes are conducted in the Temple every Sunday evening from 4:00pm to 5.30pm).
