Sri Viswanathar
Lord
Viswanatha exists in the form of a huge
lingam emerging from the yani at its base. This shrine can be seen on
the sacred bank of the River Ganges at Kasi
(Benares). One dominant feature is that the dome is made up of one mount of gold donated by a Rani. When it is viewed at sunrise or sunset, it glitters with a resplendent and glorious hue. The lingam sympolise the triumph of the Ultimate reality over the mind which is denoted by Visalatshi, his consort, in the pose of a dancer. In most places of worship the two deities are placed side by side with a bull facing Viswanatha and a lion facing Visalatshi |
