Project Read

It has always been said that there's no age barrier for reading and learning. We have embarked on a challenging reading programme for the young between the ages of 4-6 years at our Temple since January 2000. Every Saturday afternoon, a group of dedicated volunteers from our Volunteer Force would spend time to read books and sing nursery rhymes to these tiny tots. They are also taught how to recognise words and to differentiate the sounds of the vowels and consonants.

Inadvertently, simple spelling is imparted to these cute ones. Due to the current space constraints, the reading programme is temporarily conducted at the Alexandra Community Centre. When our Multi-Purpose Family Hall project is completed, this programme would be conducted in-house. With the success of this programme, the Management Committee is intending to conduct pre-school classes and tuition programmes for the Primary and Secondary School students once the Hall is built.

Project Read is conducted at the Alexandra Community Centre from 3.30pm to 5.00pm, with a current enrolment of about 30 young children.
