HUMMER'S HISTORY


All began in 1979, when Army Forces of the E.E.U.U requested to the militar army's enterprise a vehicle that combine all the requirements that army ordered.

Of this enterprise's competition appeared "the ustoppable" Humvee (HMMWV-->High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle) to hands of A.M. General. But it had to compete with other enterprises like Teledyne Continental ("The Onza" was its vehicle) and Chrysler (a "Saluki's" adaptation). A.M General's prototype, the novice profession "HMMWV", was tested in Nevada's desert in 80's July. The army had three vehicles very competitve under proofs.

The army began the final choice in 81's February. Six industrial's proposals requested in the technical aspects of the future militar vehicle. In 81's June Army Forces granted to General Dynamics,Teledine and A.M. General contracts to build prototypes of:

"Trailer's Carriers"/"Troops' Carrier"/"Chargue's Carrier"/"Mini ambulance"/"Maxi ambulance"

The proofs that the Army submit to the prototypes would be hard proofs like of Corrosion, ford, resitence, reliable's proofs, user-friendly, chargue's capacity, etc. With all this proofs and approximately ten mounths had the A.M. General to develop the HMMWV.

The production's proposition of HMMWV to hands of AM General signed in 83's March requesting 55.000 vehicles in five years.


This vehicle was called Humvee (M998 is called to basic model) by Army Forces and was registred with the name of Hummer (civil version) by the contructor. This vechicle was the substitute of the Jeep, modernizing the North American Army.

But the history don't finish here, Hummer H1 will see the light in a few months and it will be called Hummer H1 alpha:
