| Undergraduate Project
My undergraduate project was conducted under supervision of Prof Dr Dayar Arbain at Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Andalas, Padang, Indonesia in 1996. That time was a invaluable experience for me in getting closely to natural product research. The title of the project was "Isolation of Alkaloid from Ophiorrhiza sp". Ophiorrhiza is a genus of Rubiaceae family. |
| RESEARCHES |
| Master Research Under guiding by Prof Dr Dayar Arbain, I continued to my study at UTM. My research was phytochemical study on Guttiferae species. One of the well-known member of the Guttiferae is Calophylum lanigerum, found in Sarawak, Malaysia. Its chemical constituent, calanolide is active against HIV virus, the project is conducted by NCI, USA. In my research, I investigated four species of Guttiferae; Garcinia grifithii, Garcinia parvifolia, Garcinia eugenifolia and Calophyllum enervosum. The chemical study on Calophyllum enervosum, it was found a new polyisoprenylated ketone (enervosanone). |
| PhD Research In PhD, I conducted a research in animal cell culture. I studied antidiabetic properties of Cinnamomum zeylanicum. Cell line used was 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Cinnamomum is a genus from Lauraceae family. It is widely used as a flavour and fragrance. Its stem bark contain a large quantity of proanthocynidin. Analysis of the stem bark, it was found that the biological active compound was Cinnamtannin B1. |
