*UPDATES:  I have added several characters to page 2 of the Individual Characters section.  Enjoy.

FOR THOSE TRYING TO ACCESS THE SITE:
We only have 4.8 MB of bandwidth an hour.  That means that when enough viewers come to site and we exceed the limit, we shut down temporarily
as a result of Geocities.  If you ever have a time when this site is down, simply try again in 10-15 minutes.  The best times to access Mugen Depot
is in the early hours of morning, usually.  This site will remain free, so don't expect this to change anytime soon!

About the Site:
This site was made for the Mugen fan just starting out.  Truth be told, Mugen has been around for a long time...since 1999 actually.  A programming group called Elecbyte created the program and since then it has just took off.  Our stand on warehousing is this:  Don't put the character online if you don't want people to use it.  Granted there are many creators who deserve respect and admiration, but this site hopes to grant a little hope in the Mugen community again...for those wanting to have fun!!  Those looking to make a name are in the wrong environment.

This is an anonymous site (with many backups made) so if anything happens to this site, you will see another one pop up in no time.  I have all of these characters/stages backed up on discs, so this hopes to be your one and only stop for Mugen!  Come on in, and download for free!

What is Warehousing?
Warehousing (to the common Mugen user) is simply putting a character/stage online without the creator's permission.  Its just like MP3's, Full-length videos, and what not, but Mugen characters are generally sprite edits with no real value except to a Mugen user.  SNK, Capcom, and various other gaming companies do not have a strong stand against playing sprite-characters, as they usually look at it as fanart.  In court, though, a character creator would have no strong standing so posting characters online without permission is not something that is going to get you in trouble (other than with the creator themselves).

Why Gamingforce Hates You
Many of you may have noticed that certain forums are certainly more accepting than others.  A few (Gamingforce to name one in particular) have strict policies about individuals who want anything and everything Mugen-related.  Most of these forums are designed for people who are frequents (people with absolutely no life) to the board, and not so much zero posters.  Zero posters (in the Mugen sense) are people who sign up for a board just to gain access, and usually make one request then leave.  Administrators absolutely HATE this, which is why you will usually receive a less than warm welcome.  The best path to take is to get friendly with a crowd first before "asking" for something.  This way you will not look like a leecher...websites are for people who want to take and not give...forums are for a community.

Forums like Gamingforce and Mugen-Infantry are absolutely against these kinds of people...as you can see below, a Gamingforce admin named Lord Styphon feels this way about the Mugen-community:

"Let me get this straight. You only come here for MUGEN related crap, and are so engrossed in it that you don't know anything of Gamingforce Interactive Forums as a whole, up to and including who is in charge.

Despite this, you still feel qualified to tell us how we should run our board?"

Thanks goes out to an old friend of mine for sending me his response.  So in the end...is it your fault?  Maybe a little...but who's to blame?  A little of everybody...I mean...the official Mugen Thread on Gamingforce has RULE#1:  Requests are handled.  Who said this scene was perfect?

GETTING STARTED:   For those who do not have Mugen at all...you will need the default program first.  I'm only going to post a link to "winmugen", the windows version of Mugen.  Assuming most have moved on past the DOS version since we are in the year 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and so on....

http://unofficial-winmugen.jpn.org/about.htm

After you have Winmugen, you will notice it isn't very impressive.  That's where screenpacks come in.  A screenpack acts like a mod to Mugen that makes it overall more user-friendly and nicer to look at.  Also it adjusts the character selection screen to hold more characters.
You will want to go HERE and download this screenpack if you want a "large" collection screen.  Holds over
800 character profiles if you use the portrait version, and a whopping 10,000 characters if you use the category selection method.  Just remember when adding characters into the Data/Select.def file, that you can NOT go over the number of slots in that section or else your select screen will be out of order.  For the EVE screenpack you can't go over 26 characters per row for the portrait version, and 50 characters per section for the 10,000 version.  All you do is plug in the folder name followed by the definition file name.  So, it would look something like this:   ryu/ryu.def   in place of randomselect or CharaName[001].  More directions can be found in the readmes or on various forums.

Hopefully that explains the basics...~
