How to search for files from drives on your computer

Hard disk in the computer have all the data in it . Searching for files is important to learn because you might have lot of files on your computer in different folders . so to open each drive and open every folder looking for the particular file would be lot of tiresome , and takes lot of time . windows already have search facility for file or folder in it .

If you want to search for a file you must have to know atleast the fulname or part name of that file , or the extension of the file , or just what type of file it is .

Here is the procedure to find for a file in windows XP environment

Click on START button > Search >

It opens a window and left side of the window you can see the pic like this there you have can choose what file you want to search , like if you want to search for pictures / docurments / Music / Video

so click on that and enter the name of file or extension of the file

There is also facility to choose advance option button so that you can search extensively . just click on advanced search button you can lot of options like

when it is modified , what is size of file

in more advanced options you can also choose search from hidden files and folders also .

You can also search using the file extension .

for example if you want to search for any text file you can type *.txt

and any Microsoft word file ( document ) *.doc

any Image file like bmp or jpg *.jpg

*.bmp

so all the files with that extension is displayed in the results .
