what is a computer ?

A Computer is a programable Electronic Machine .. it processes information .. takes input and process and gives required out put ..

It excutes instruactions given in the program , computer also stores data and also it process data ( performs Mathematical and logical operations ) and producess out put ..

   Computer performa  different functions :

   INPUTS DATA , PROCES DATA , PRODUCES OUTPUT , STOROAGE DEVICES .

   A bit(=BInary digit) is the smallest information in the computer. It ‘s value is  1 or 0

  Or you can say on or off just like voltage to a bulb

  A byte contains 8 bits. It's the standard size of a memory cell

  One byte =        1024 bits

  And a Kilobyte = 1024 bytes

  one mb ( mega bytes)  =  1024 Kilo bytes (kb)

  one gb  ( giga bytes)   =   1024 Mega bytes (mb)

  the storage will be like this :

   bit7 bit6 bit5 bit4 bit3 bit2 bit1 bit0

Computer Hard ware is mainly consists of  , Processor (CPU)  ,  Mother board , Hard drive ( stores data or files )  , RAM ,  CD-ROM , DVD - ROM ( Removable drives ) for playing CDs or DVDs these are Optical drives ,  Floppy drives to play Floppy . And  other components include Monitor ( to view )  , keyboard , Mouse ( both are input devices of computer ) ,  In addition to this a computer may contain  Sound card , graphic cards , Pen drives , printers , scanners , webcam or digital camera in this way we can connect lots of devices to computer these are called peripheral devices ,

Softwares of  Computers :

  1. System software ( mainly called as  Operating systems)

    System softwares  helps to run the computer. it contains basic bootable and system files . it enables computer hardware to communicate and operate with computer software and other application softwares . what ever the type of computer it needs basic Operating system software , whether it is  main frame computer , or  desk top , Laptop , or handheld palmOS computer.

         Examples : MS - DOS ,Win3.x  , Win 95 , Win98 SE , Win2000, WinNT , Windows XP ( Home , professional versions) , Mac-OS , Unix ,Linux , solaris , IBM OS/2 , etc ..

2. Application Softwares  (different types for different type of purpose)

   these softwares are installed on Operating system software  , used according to the computer user purpose .

Example :  Oracle , Autocad , Adobe photo shop , 3ds max , etc
