Mean Doctors....
"I read the wrong X-Ray...(doctors words.)"
Ok, this happened when I was in the hospital for 20 days with very bad case of pancreatitis. My lipase was 6,000. I was in the hospital from the end of february til around March 15-16th, I'm not sure at the moment what time frame. Any way, during the hospital stay they had done an ERCP on me, and placed a stent in the main bile duct in my pancreas to see if that helped the abdominal pain I was still getting with every bite of food that I ate. I had the stent placed on a thursday, and they already had me booked for the GI lab the following thursday to remove it. Stents in the pancreas have to be taken back out within 10 days of placement. They get infected...amd can potentially cause alot of problems for the patient. The Tuesday before my stent was to be taken out one of my GI doctors came to my room and ordered an x-ray to see how the stent was and everything. I had the X-ray done...and about 1 hour later..the Same Doctor that had ordered the X-ray, returned to my room. He started saying that the stent in my pancreas had gotten dislodged..and I was like..."Well where did it go TO then??" And he just replied with some thing like...The stent has probably went into your intestine now...it wont hurt anything. I was still concerned about it. There was still alot of places that the stent could of went to, and got stuck. Anyways, after he said that stuff about my stent getting dislodged, he said that they would no longer have to go in and take it out. And then he left.
For a while I was concerned about what he said. What if the stent did go somewhere else, and get stuck? How would they know it wasn't somewhere else in my body? I was going to call and tell my mom, but she had called only a shortly before and said she would be on her way. So..I decided to just wait until she got to the hospital and tell her then. I waited around for a while. And then...all of a sudden the same GI doctor comes back in my room. And I was like...."ok what now....". He stood there and said...."I read the wrong x-ray. Your stent is till in place, in your pancreas. You will still be having it removed." Then that quick...he left. How nice. This is the second time some doctor has messed up and rea the wrong x-ray instead of mine. HELLO....this is 2003...there is no reason why a doctor should accidentaly read the wrong x-ray!! They only print your entire name, and address on every single x-ray. Gosh...I guess I'll never know why...
