Amate Bark Painting
Folk Art of Latino America
Grade 4 Project 2005
I compared "el Dia de los Muertos" with Christmas. It compares with Christmas trees, altars, skeletons and angels.

I drew my "amatae arte" like a skeleton and an angel above a cloud and a marigold in the angel's hands and a poinsiettia in the skeleton's hands.

I know that the "Nauhua" Indians of Mexcio hit the bark with rocks and use "colores brillantes" especially "blanco". This Indians outline everything in "negro".                      por P.P.
El Dia de los Muertos is like Christmas/Navidad because people eat sugar skulls and sugar cookies in shpaes of Sant Claus, mangers and presents. People set up altars on el Dia de los Muertos and on Navidad, they set up Christmas trees with lights and ornaments.

In my Amate Arte, I showed the similarities between el Dia de los Muertos and Christmas. The scene is of two children celebrating these holidays together.
El dia de los Muertos compares to Christmas. The sign for el Dia de los Muertos is a "calalca" and for Christmas it is either an angel or the Nativity scene. Also, the Spanish holiday usually has an altar and the American holiday usually has a Christmas tree filled with presents underneath. I show this in my amate art by painting an altar and a Christmas tree.               por K.V.
