Except for the occasional bushes and the fact that we could breathe the air, we really felt like we were on Mars.  On yeah, and it wasn't as cold.
We did some hiking in the dormant volcano Haleakala one day..this is the view inside the crater.
April and Mike on Mars.
We actually went up Haleakala twice, the first day was very cold and wet.  We were at 10,023 feet here.
On the same day as the picture above, April suns herself on the beach.  We must have experiened a temperature change of at least 40 degrees that day.
The native Hawaiian plant Silversword.  It only grows on the slopes of Haleakala.
We spent 3 days in the west coast resort area of Lahaina/Kaanapali.  This was poolside at our hotel, the Plantation Inn.
