Joining Mensa
There are many ways to join Mensa. One of the most convenient ways is to take the supervised Mensa test. Below is a list of frequently asked questions on the Mensa Philippines qualifying exams.
When and where can I take the Mensa qualifying exam?
Testing is
being conducted in De La Salle University (DLSU), Manila by Mr. Patrick Ocampo of the Physics
Department every weekdays by appointment, depending on the time vacancies
allowed by his teaching schedule and the untimed nature of the exam. Testing is
also being conducted on weekdays in the afternoon at Veterans Memorial Hospital
in Quezon City.

How do I schedule taking the test in La Salle?
Please
call Mr. Ocampo (during office hours) at +63 (2) 524-46-11 local 450 at
least two weekdays prior to when you would like to take the exam. This is to
make sure the limit of 40 examinees per session is not exceeded, that the
testing materials can be brought for that day, and that there is enough time to
process the entry permit to DLSU. The Security Office of DLSU is very strict so
walk-in examinees cannot be entertained.
Testing schedules currently available for the DLSU venue are variable until May 24, 2003 because Mr. Ocampo has no teaching load in La Salle for the summer and therefore is free only when he has no prior commitments.

How do I schedule taking the test in Veterans?
Please
contact Dr. Jessy Gutierrez at +63 (2) 927-69-56 during office hours.

I am not free on weekdays. How can I take the test on
weekends?
Testing is
also done on weekends when Mensa has activities. Please go to http://groups.yahoo.com/messages/mensaphilopen/?expand=1
and check out from the schedule of activities posted which weekend schedule and
venue suits you. Please also contact Mr. Ocampo to get specific directions to
the weekend venue, and so he will be able to bring enough testing material to
the activity.

I am not based in Manila, how do I take the test?
If you are
from the provinces, you can contact Mr. Ocampo for an exam anytime you are in
Manila.
Mensa Philippines also holds semi-regular test sessions in Cebu and already has
a thriving membership there. If you want to be informed of the next testing in
Cebu, please contact our Cebu Testing Reservations Officer, Joan Florido at [email protected].
Alternatively, please write to [email protected],
and your e-mail address will be noted down and you will be informed when Mensa
schedules a testing session near your area. Please also check the Coming Events
page regularly for testing sessions that may be held in your vicinity.

The type
of exam is a purely abstract (figural reasoning) supervised sit-down test;
there are no cultural biases that stem from mathematical, reading
comprehension, grammatical and similar types of tests.

I would like to take the practice test at home. How do I do
this?
The only
practice test Mensa Philippines can recommend is on the Mensa International
website, http://www.mensa.org/workout.html.

We cannot
divulge that information, although we can tell you that previously the test was
timed, and that people were required to finish the test in 40 minutes.

Testing
fee is P150 for undergraduate students with valid ID and P400 for
professionals.
What do I have to bring to the testing session?
Besides
the testing fee and a valid ID, you don't have to bring anything else. A pencil
will be provided for you. If you have a lucky pen, though, you will be allowed
to use that to take the test.
I have taken the test before but failed. Can I take the
test again?
Only if at
least six months have elapsed since the last time you took the test. That is
the minimum period we allow anyone to retake the test.

I have taken the test in another country and passed. Do I
have to take the test again here?
No. All
you have to do is contact our cybercom head at [email protected] and he will verify
your qualification in other countries. As soon as your qualification is
confirmed, you can pay your membership fee and become an active member here in
the Philippines.
Can we schedule our own testing session?
Yes. You can schedule your own testing
session for your school, company or organization if you can assure at least ten
paying (10) examinees and you have your own venue available for at least four
hours. Again please contact Mr.
Ocampo to find out the schedule or availability.
Can a six-year old child take the test?
Only
14-year olds and above are allowed to take the test. This is because that is
the minimum age for which we have data to determine if a person's test results
qualify him or her for Mensa. If a child passes the practice tests, then we
recommend that he or she take the test upon reaching age 14.

I have taken the practice tests on the internet and was
told my score can qualify me for Mensa. Do I still have to take the test?
You still
have to take the test. Only the Mensa-administered and supervised tests
here and in other countries are officially able to grant anyone qualification.

It has been more than a month since I took the test and I haven't
received my results. Can't I be told my test results by e-mail or phone call?
No. To ensure the confidentiality of test results, Mensa
International requires us to send the results by post to the preferred mailing
address you gave in your information sheet. That means test results cannot be
divulged by e-mail, phone call or text message. If you do not receive your
results three weeks after you took the test, please contact Mr. Ocampo at the
phone number or e-mail address given above to confirm that your preferred
mailing address and zip code are correct. Then a new letter will be sent to
you. Allow another three weeks for delivery. Rinse and repeat. J
