| Vineyard The Vineyard would be planted with 2 whites (Chardonnay 624 vines and TBA 624 vines ) and 2 reds (Merlot 480 vines and Shiraz 480 vines), and 225 various table grape vines (2433 total), due for first vintage in 2008. All wine grape vines are planted in a north/south orientation, while the table grapes are grown in an east/west orientation on a west facing slope. The Merlot and Shiraz are grown in a rich red loam soil over clay on the lower side of the vineyard.. The Chardonnay is grown in a rich red loam/coffee rock mix over clay. The remaining white variety TBA will be grown on the upper part of the hillside in a loose gravelly soil. Our Trelising is quite different to the "standard" seen in other vineyards. We use the Bi-lateral Cordon system. This means the vines have a closer spacing (1.3 metres) but have 2 growing cordons instead of a single cordon. The height of the cordons are 1 metre off the ground, and upward growth would reach up to 1.8 metres contained by the trelis system. Row spacing is 2.4 metres. Cellar Door The site for the cellar door and cafe would overlook the vineyard, and have views of the Botanical Park. Visitors would drive past almost half a kilometer of vineyard before comming to the cellar door parking area. The same parking area is also used for vistors to the Botanical Park |
