| 09/21/04 Today, we began our day with a circle and talked about fishes and how they are cold blooded, live in water, have scales and lay eggs. We had a few new works in the classroom that were very popular: Hole-Punching a Fish, Crayons Coloring and Handscooping Island Stones. We also had our first Spanish class with Miss Zouhaida in Miss Megan & Miss Fran's classroom. Miss Zouhaida sang, counted 1 - 10, practiced the primary colors and introductions of one another. All in espanol! For snack we ate crackers. 09/22/04 Today we had a really nice work time, with friends choosing works such as the Long Red Rods, Hole Punching a Fish, and a brand new fish puzzle. Miss Jessica gave a lesson to a friend on how to set up snack. Every day from now on, every child will get a one-on-one lesson so that they are ready when we start our Leaders' Day in October. For snack we had pretzels. In circle, we had a great lesson about sea horses. We had a look at some real sea horses and read the book Sea Horses by Elaine Landau. Did you know that the male sea horse carries the eggs in his pouch? And that they swim vertically in the water? We also practiced our birthday songs for the upcoming birthday celebrations in our classroom. Note to parents: Pam & Joseph LoDato have offered to host our Parent Potluck Dinner on Thursday, October 14th! We will be sending a memo all about it soon. Save the date for this fun social event! 09/23/04 Today we had a long circle to practice our birthday walk and birthday song: our first birthday celebration will take place tomorrow morning. Some popular work choices were the Numerals and Counters, the Fish Cards and the Hole Punching Work. We also went to Miss Megan and Miss Fran's classroom for our Music class with Miss Ellen and sang a lot of great songs such as BINGO, the Apple Tree Song & the Autumn Leaves Song. For snack, we had some pretzels. 09/24/04 Today we started our day with Lily's Birthday Celebration with a special visit from her dad. We also talked about leader days and how each friend will soon have a turn to be the leader of the classroom for one day - I will send the parents more information next week and we will start having leader days on 10/04. During work time, we could see friends busy with the Monomial Cube, Handscooping Beads and Coloring Fishes. For snack, we had bananas. In circle, we read the book From Head to Toe by Eric Carle. Note to parents: Please remind your child to bring his/her folder back to school on Monday. Have a great weekend! 09/27/04 Today we had a birthday celebration for our friend Jake. Heidi Hammer (Jake's mom) came to our classroom to attend the celebration and she also showed all of our friends how to change the fishbowl water for our friends Fishie and Nelson. In honor of Jakes birthday, they also donated the book Jack and the Beanstalk, by Richard Walker and Niamh Sharkey. In circle we read the book Flossie Flounder: A Tale of Flat Fish by Suzanne Tate. For snack, we had terra chips. Note to parents: Please remind your child to bring his/her work folder back to school. Thank you so much for putting the napkins and silverware in your childs lunchbox! They are already being so very successful! Still, I have noticed that many of the children are spending a large amount of time opening their juice box or other beverage containers and drinking, vs. eating their food! Since we are providing water to the children, I would like to ask you not to place any beverage in your childs lunch box to see if they might get to the rest of their food faster. Thank you for your help! We are also looking for a parent who would like to coordinate our potluck dinner, i.e. RSVP, who brings what, etc. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer. |
