| 09/14/04 After Nelson yesterday, we met our second beta fish today: he was unanimously named Fishie. Our friends were busy Squeezing Pompoms, Rolling Rugs, and working with the Monomial Cube. In circle, we read the book My Visit to the Aquarium by Aliki. We also talked about raising a quiet hand when we wanted to say something during circle. For snack, we had two spoonfuls of terra chips. A few notes for parents: Half-day dismissal is now going to take place at 11:55 am so that the Toddlers dismissal can take place at 11:45 am. This will make for a smoother pick-up time for everyone. Thank you for your understanding while we get all the beginning of the year kinks out. Every year, each classroom is having a potluck dinner hosted by one of the families for all the parents. This year, the Treehouse primary classrooms will be having one big potluck for both classrooms and we are looking for a family that would like to host this dinner. We would like this potluck to take place in the evening on a weeknight, sometimes over the next few weeks. Please let us know if you are interested. 09/15/04 This morning, friends have been choosing many works: Counting Sea Shells, Spooning Rocks, the Snap Frame and the Button Frame. For snack, we had two spoonfuls of banana chips. In circle, we read the book 'The Rainbow Fish' by Marcus Pfister. We also talked about how to interrupt a teacher by gently placing a hand on her shoulder and patiently wait until she is finished giving a lesson or talking to another child. Everybody was so excited to practice this Grace and Courtesy lesson right away so we all took turn. 09/16/04 Today we had our very first music class with Miss Ellen. We went to Miss Megan & Miss Fran's classroom and sang songs such as This Land Is My Land, The Ice Cream Shop and read the book My Five Senses by Aliki. In snack we had some rice crackers. During lunch time, we keep on working on setting up our lunch: we first put our lunch box on the chair, place our placemat on the table and put all of the items from our lunch box right on it. While we are eating, the lunch box is nicely tucked under our chair and we are all working on sitting on our chair during the entire lunchtime. 09/17/04 Today we started our day spending some time on the playground. Back in the classroom, some popular work choices were the Long Red Rods, the Cutting Work and the Spindle Box. For snack, we had rice crackers. In circle, we read the book Fergus and Barney. We also talked about using our soft inside voices while we are in the classroom. Please remind your child to send his/her work folder back to school on Monday. Have a great weekend! 09/20/04 Today everybody seemed very happy to be back at school! Some popular work choices around the classroom were Handscooping Island Stones, Making Bead Bracelets and Drawing a Self-Portrait. In circle, we had a group lesson about Talking with a Low Voice and we explained how all of our friends could use their soft inside voices when they were in the classroom. We read the book Skippy Scallop: A Tale of Bright Blue Eyes by Suzanne Tate. We also looked at some beautiful seashells that Andrew had brought to the classroom for us. In our afternoon circle, we also looked at a snakeskin that our friend Sam brought to the classroom for us. For snack, we had wheat crackers. Note for parents: We are still looking for a volunteer to host our classroom potluck dinner. This is a tradition at the Natick Montessori School: each year, one family offers to host the potluck dinner and all the other parents can bring a dish of their choice. If you are hesitating to volunteer and have a couple of questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. |
