Today was our very first Leader Day!  Phillip was the one ringing the bell and giving messages to his friends. He also led the line to and from the playground. We all had a very busy morning as everyone wanted to work with the new materials that were brought to the classroom on Friday. We had friends working with Sweeping Bunnies, Scooping Beans, and Rolling and Unrolling an Apron. For snack, we had veggie chips.
In circle, we talked about the show-n-tell that friends get to bring to school on their Leader Day and looked at our calendar so that everyone would know when their special day was.

Today our friend Andrew turned 3 years old. His sister Brighid joined us fom the Primary I Classroom, along with their parents, Erin O'Boyle and Ed McGuire. Andrew decorated his own crown, with the help of many of his friends. We then had his Birthday walk, hearing some great stories about Andrew when he was younger from his mom and his sister. Andrew and his family donated the book I Pledge Allegiance by Bill Martin Jr. and Michael Sampson to the school in honor of Andrew's birthday. We then joined Miss Elizabeth and Miss Leni's toddler classroom in the playground. We also had Spanish with Miss Zouhaida and played some great games about numbers and colors in Spanish. In circle, we read the book The Night The Moon Slept by Susan K. Baggette.
For snack, Andrew brought in some delicious watermelon.
Reminder to parents:
We are a NUT-FREE school: please make sure your child's lunch does not include any nuts (i.e. peanut butter, cereal bars, rice pilaf, and of course all nuts)
Please write your child's name (or his/her initials) on all clothes and belongings.

Our classroom had a great day today! For her first Leader Day, our friend Clare brought in some cantaloupe that she set up all by herself!  She also brought a large horseshoe magnet to show and tell her friends about and the book What Magnets Can Do by Allan Fowler that we read in circle. We also had a great lesson on Putting a Jacket On on Our Own. Friends so quietly sat down on our brand new rug in the coatroom and practiced putting their jackets on all by themselves, one after the other.

Our friends had a really nice day today! We had a visit from our friend Sophie from Miss Sarah and Miss Jennifer's classroom. It was a great treat for all of our friends as she helped them around the classroom rolling and unrolling their rugs, putting away their lunch, and inspecting the classroom to make sure that all of our works were nicely put back on the shelves. For his first Leader Day, our friend Sam brought in some oranges and set up snack all by himself!  He also brought a bell with the seal of the United States of America and answer many of his friends' questions. In circle, we read the book Excuse Me! A Little Book of Manners! and talk about how we all wanted to use kind words and give nice messages to everyone else in our school. We also talked about germs and about how it was so important to wash our hands before and after eating, and after going to the bathroom, and how we needed to make sure that our hands were so clean before touching the works or the books.
In music, we sang a lot of great songs and had Miss Ellen show us how to pretend to use a hammer so quietly and how to make sure that we could sing and stay in a nice circle.

We had a very busy morning at school today. Many friends chose the Clay Work, waiting patiently for their turn. Others were working with the Hole Punching Work and Fitting the Pegs on the Square. Some even played the Color Matching game, where they are given a color and they have to find an object of the same color in the classroom. In circle, Phillip talked about the Violets that he brought into the classroom and that he will be taking care of from now on. Other children will be invited to bring a plant to school in the near future. In Circle, we read the book Will You Be My Friend? and talked about all the other children in the entire school were all our friends. We also had snack together, sitting around the rug. Friends took turn washing their hands. They each had their own napkin and plate and the bowl of rice crackers was passed from friends to friends so that they could each take 5 of them. We all waited so patiently until everyone was served and then ate our snack all together. Finally, we made sure to place all of the trash in the trashcan before going to the playground. We all had such a great time! Note to Parents:
Work folders are sent home today. Please remind your child to bring them back on Tuesday!
We would love a large pumpkin and some smaller ones. We also would love some Indian corns.
Thank you!
