| 10/12/04 We had a very busy day this morning, exploring the many new works that found their ways to our classroom over the long weekend! Friends were working with the Fruits & Vegetables Cards, the Tool Box, and the Colorful Shapes Work. In circle, the children were introduced to our brand new Peace Corner. We talked about how it was a one-friend area and that everyone could choose to sit there when they were feeling a little unwell or when they simply needed time alone. We also talked about the beautiful Sharing Heart that now lives in our Peace Corner. Friends can hold it when they need to find a little peace for their soul. We also used the Sharing Heart in circle: whoever is holding the Heart gets to share a story with his/her friends while everyone else is quietly listening. We also took a walk around the school to have a look at Miss Lynn, Miss Lee, Miss Sarah & Miss Jennifers classrooms. In Spanish, Miss Zouhaida taught us how to sing The Itsy Bitsy Spider in Spanish and we kept on learning about colors and numbers. For snack, we had rice crackers! Reminders to parents: Please remind your child to bring his/her workfolder back to school! 10/13/04 Today we had another busy morning. Friends were choosing works around the classroom, such as the Names of Colors, Dressing Up Teddy, and Hand-scooping Pasta. Sruti was the Leader of the day and she brought apples to share with her friends at snack time. In circle, we talked about Maria Montessori: we learned that she was the first woman doctor in Italy, that she created all of the Montessori materials that can be found in every single one of our schools classroom, and that there are many other Montessori classrooms all over the world. We also had a great time on the playground and enjoyed the gorgeous weather. Tidbit: We will be making applesauce from scratch this Monday and some friends will be able to bring home their note tonight (don't worry you have until Friday to bring in an apple. If you are unable, please let us know and we can supply one). It is a little community builder for us to all bring an apple from home and use them all together to create applesauce. 10/14/04 Today we started our day with a circle, talking about the apples that the children brought to the classroom and about making applesauce all together. We read the book Mr. Peabody's Apples by Madonna. For her very first leader day, Jacquelyn brought watermelon to share with her friends and helped set up the snack table. We also had music with Miss Ellen in Miss Megan & Miss Fran's classroom and sang many songs about peace and about leaves. 10/15/04 Good afternoon, We started our day with a circle: the children received a lesson on Polishing an Apple and we read the book Autumn Leaves by Ken Robbins. During work time, friends were very busy choosing works such as Squeezing a Sponge, the Parts of the Apples or The First Sounds of Objects. We then went for a walk to the waterfall and to a nearby baseball field where the children were able to use their loudest outside voices and their fastest running feet - pictures will follow soon! It was Jake's first Leader Day and he was so happy to ring the bell and remind his friends to use a soft inside voice in the classroom.
