| 11/16/04 Good evening, Today was another busy day in our classroom. The children have been choosing so many works and have definitely been working on their concentration, coordination, order, and independence. We started our day with Andrews Show-n-Tell: a laptop! Andrew explained to his friends where the computer was from and then typed each one of his friends (and teachers!) names and had them guess whose name he was writing next. Everybody was very excited to see their names written on the computer screen. For snack, Andrew brought oranges to share with his friends. Miss Jolene from the Book mobile visited and read to us. The book mobile driver was sick so we will get a chance at visiting the book mobile next week. In Spanish, we kept on learning new words about colors and numbers. In circle, we read the book Which hat is that? By Anna Grossnickle Hines. We also learned how to put all of our winter gear away in the coat room: first we put our mittens/gloves in our hat; then we put our hat in the sleeve of our jackets! It was a lot of fun except that some friends forgot where we had put everything away and when it was time to get dressed again, many friends were wondering where their hat and mittens were I guess well to work on that one a little more! Note to parents: Miss Karen and Miss Lynn will be presenting the Montessori Materials to parents on Wed, Nov. 17th at 7:15pm (TOMORROW!!). This will be a very informative evening for you to learn about the aims behind all the wonderful learning tools your child uses everyday. RSVP and don't miss out. 11/17/04 Good afternoon, It seems that the children are on a roll for many very busy days! This morning, everybody was so busy making wonderful work choices that our work time lasted more than 1 hour!!! We could see friends working with so many Montessori materials: the Pink Tower, the Color Box, the Continent Map, the Binomial Cube, the Numerals and Counters, the Knobless Cylinders Box, etc. And the timing could not be better: you will have the opportunity to learn about the aims behind all the wonderful learning tools your child uses everyday by attending Miss Karen and Miss Lynns presentation TONIGHT. This very informative evening will take place in the Miss Lynns classroom at 7:15pm. We also had formal lunch: 4 friends were busy setting up the tables with tablecloths, plates, and silverware, while Miss Rebecca was reading to the other children. Today was Clares leader day! She happily agreed to invite Phillip to present his Show-n-Tell (we have been so busy that we had not get to it yet!). Phillip had brought the book The Story of Babar the Little Elephant and was excited to show many of the pictures to everyone. For her Show-n-Tell, Clare brought some flowers and invited the friends to do some flower arrangements, another very popular work choice! Reminders for Parents are: Please return your wrapping paper sale form by Friday, November 19, 2004 so that you can get your order in before the holidays (The brochures were sent home in your child's folder last Friday). If your child is a full day student, look for After School sign up sheets for session 2. They were sent home today. The deadline for returning this form is Tuesday, November 23, 2004. 11/18/04 Good afternoon, Today is Thursday! During worktime, friends chose to work with the metal insets, the triangle box, the smelling cylinders, and the tee work. We had music with Miss Ellen and sang many songs about the fall. In circle, Miss Jessica gave a group lesson on Mixing Colors and the children were observing so quietly. For snack, Sam brought cranberries and dried apricots. 11/19/04 Today is Friday! Today was Jake's leader day and he brought in a globe to show his friends and tell them everything about it! We had a circle in the coatroom and took turn putting on our shoes and our jackets before going to the playground. We played outside in the beautiful weather on the "big" playground. We also talked about our upcoming Thanksgiving celebration: we will be traveling to Miss Sarah's classroom and have lunch over there. Have a wonderful weekend and see you on Monday! |
