Children returned to school to find brand new lockers in the classroom. Everybody was able to nicely put away their jackets, shoes, backpacks and lunch boxes. We had a short circle and Sruti and Andrew shared their Winter Journals. Then the children could not wait to go choose among all the new works that are in the classroom and we had a really busy work time. For snack, we had bananas.
We started reading the book Our Peaceful Classroom by Aline Wolf, with illustrations by children from Montessori schools all over the world. We also counted that today was our 70th day of school!
Note to parents:
Please make sure to send your child's Holiday Journal to school if they have worked on it during the break so that they can share it with their classmates.
Some children were also missing some of their rest time items. Please make sure to send them to school tomorrow as they were pretty sad about that! Thanks.

We started our morning in the playground so that the children could enjoy the snow. During circle, we read the book It's My Turn by David Bedford and Elaine Field.
During work time, the children were very busy with the many new materials that we have: Book of Numbers, the geometric tray, the red and blue rods, the sandpaper numerals, the bead stair, etc.
We also had formal lunch and the children did a wonderful job at setting up the tablecloths, the plates, cups and silverware.
Note to parents: We will start our day in the playground tomorrow again. Please bring your child to school with his/her snow suit or pants on. Thank you!

We had a great day in our classrooms today! Miss Megan was still out with the flu so we decided to keep the primary III & IV classrooms together and to spend the morning in the bigger classroom. We started our day in the playground! Then we had a circle and share all the snacks that so many friends had brought: we had grapes, cantaloupe, cheese bunnies and crackers! We also had Aislinn and Clayton's birthday celebrations. Both of their moms came to share with us photos and stories about Aislinn and Clayton when they were 1, 2, 3, and now 4. They also brought in a craft project: painting birdhouses! Thank you so much for everything, Lynn and Kelly!
For lunch, we had a big picnic!

Today we began our day out on the park playing and finding tracks in the snow. Whenever the children will be needing to wear their snow suits or pants to go outside, we will be starting our mornings on the playground. This helps us win a good 15 extra minutes of worktime! I will also try to remind you in the daily reports as much as possible. By the way, we will start our day on the playground tomorrow morning!  Back in the classroom, we had a circle and read the book It's OK to be Different by Todd Parr. We also had a sharing circle and read Lily's Winter Journal before inviting the children to go choose a work. Popular works today were the Mystery Bag, the Hole Punching Work, and the Decimal System with Cards. For snack, we had cheddar bunnies.

We started our day in the park (and will do so again tomorrow!). Back in our classroom, we had a circle and listened to Lily tell us about her show-n-tell: the Walt Disney's Classic Storybook! We also had a group lesson on the Color Box and talked about color mixing. During work time, friends saw a spider on the easel so we put it in a clear bug box so that everyone could safely have a look at it! Some popular work choices were Name Writing, Pouring Green Water and the Safety Pins work. At 10:30 am, Miss Zouhaida came to our classroom for our Spanish lesson. We learned new words such as la camisa (the shirt), los pantalones (the pants), la leche (the milk), el agua (the water), and el jabon (the soap). Our friends Sam and Jake were missing today and we hope that they will soon be back with us. Note to parents: Your child's folder is going home today with the January newsletter. You will find in it the page that Miss Megan and I are putting together just for you. It will help you know more about what we are working on with your children and will keep you up to date with what has been happening in your child's classroom.
