We started our day with a circle and after greeting everyone, we talked about what was an experiment. We then experiment with sponges and water and learned about the differences between a dry sponge, a wet sponge and a damp sponge. Everybody was so fascinated to see the sponge get bigger and change color when it was dunked in water... It really was a lot of fun! For his show-n-tell, Andrew brought a gingerbread house that he made at home. For snack, we ate bananas. Today, Miss Zouhaida came to our classroom for Spanish and we decorated a Christmas Tree (un arbol) with some shapes (las formas).
Reminders for Parents are... We will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for children ages 7 and up until this Wednesday ONLY!!  Please don't forget the children who may not be receiving any gifts this holiday season and donate to this very worthy ("feel good") cause...Thanks

Firefighter Ward came to visit and talked to us about Fire safety today. Some of the information was a lot to understand. Regardless, it was exciting to have him. We even crawled under a green tarp and pretended it was smoke.  He reminded us that we all should have a meeting place outside of our house in case we ever did have a fire. We also began a special holiday project for our parents, it is a surprise...
We also had our formal lunch today and the children already know how to set up the tables all by themselves!!! Thank you so much to the parents who have been helping with the tablecloths and the dishes... The children are always looking forward to our formal lunches and your participation and involvement is what makes it possible!
Save the Date- Tuesday December 21st at 2 :15 is a school sing-along with Miss Ellen.  If your child is half-day, please come back... What is better than 70 children singing Christmas songs at the top of their lungs!!!

Today we started our day with a circle and talked about CHOICES. We discussed how friends can choose a work from any shelf in the classroom, how they can choose to leave the circle to do a quiet work by themselves, or how they can choose to go to the bathroom whenever they need to, etc. Then we also talked about other times when choices are no longer an option, i.e. staying in the classroom while everyone is going to the playground or using a loud outside voice or running feet in the classroom. Friends came up with great examples and seem to understand better why we sometimes need to all do the same thing at the same time.
Then we had music with Miss Ellen and practiced all of the holiday songs for our upcoming Sing-a-Along.
For snack, we ate mangos.
For his show-n-tell, Sam brought a sign with his name on it made by his big brother Harry.
In the coatroom, we read the book The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein while friends were quietly taking turns to go wash their hands before lunchtime.

We started our day with Lily's Show-n-Tell: she brought in a book and showed her favorite pictures to all of her friends. Then we went to Miss Megan and Miss Fran's classroom and had a visit from Miss Sarah. She brought in a special project and everyone made their very own snow people with marshmallows, glue, toothpicks and felt. We tried really hard to tell everyone that those marshmallows were not meant for eating but it seemed that some friends did not really believe us... oops!
For snack, we had watermelons.
Note to parents:
Your child's work folder was sent home today with the January Leader Calendar.
It has also been brought to my attention that some parents were already showing concerns about the 2005-2006 school year. As I have openly discussed with some of you, some events in my personal life might lead me to leave the area over the summer. Still, the reality is that it is still way too early for me to be in a position to make a decision: the Natick Montessori School, just as the largest majority of schools, hires its staff on a year-to-year basis and teachers contracts will not be renewed until April 2005. In the meantime, I do intend to fulfill the responsibilities that were given to me as the Lead Teacher of the Primary IV classroom and can assure you that you can count on my utmost dedication and professionalism while I continue to work with your children throughout the year.
