Mnchen, Bayern (Cont.)
This is the Englischer Garten...It is a HUGE park in the middle of Munich.  You can easily walk there from the Rathaus and Glockenspiel.
On Nov. 9, 1923 Hitler staged his infamous Bierhall Putsch (Beer Hall Coup) here.  The results landed him in Jail, where he wrote Mein Kampf.
On the Way to the English Garden, we stopped at the Hofbrauhaus for something to drink.  This is Germany's most famous beer hall.  While famous, it is not very authentic...It is a real tourist trap, filled with people from all over the world.  If you ever are lost in Munich, go to the Hofbrauhaus.  You will find more Americans there than Castle Neuschwanstein!  Still, it is a must see.
Sherry is not drinking mineral water.  It is a concoction called Limo (LEEMO).  It is short for Limonade, but it is not lemonade!!!  Limo is basically carbonated water with lemon flavor and sweetener.  It tastes like sprite, but not as sweet.  There is also orange Limo.
If you want to be daring, try Mineral Wasser with juice...this makes a Schorle. Mix one third MW with two thirds juice.  You can obviously add more or less of either to make it suit your tastes.   Try it at home with some carbonated water from the store.  Apple and orange juices make good mixers.
Of course, if you have been around me when I talk about drinks in Germany, you know about my favorite...Spezi!!!
Spezi is a type of pop called Cola-mix.  It is basically one third Orange Fanta and two thirds Cola.  It is only sold in Germany, and even then, usually is found only in Bavaria.  It is the most wonderful drink I have ever tasted.  Visit the
official Spezi website!
Don't drink the water!!!  Europeans don't generally drink tap water.  There is nothing wrong with their water, it is just that they use it for washing and cooking.  So what do they drink??   Mineralwasser...basically, carbonated water.  Most Americans find it repulsive, but I have grown to like it.
