Task 1 Read the stories The Keeping Quilt By Patricia Polacco and The Patchwork Quilt by Valerie Flournoy. Ask how are the stories similar, how are they different. Use a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the stories.
Task 2 Have the students explore quilts using the following websites.

Ask: What shape did you see in these

did it tell?
Task 3 Model patter making using colored
wooden squares. Have use squares to create patterns. Have the

Demonstrate how to use the interactive figures.
Have the students create patterns using the interactive figures.
Task 4 Demonstrate how to use the interactive
tangrams. Have the students use the tangrams create a quilt square.

Demonstrate how to drag the shapes to make a
picture. Have the students drag shapes and design a quilt.
