Galaxies المجرات Galaxies are vast islands of stars scattered مُتَنَاثِرة throughout the universe. On a clear dark night, several thousand stars are visible مرئية in the sky. These stars, and more than 100 billion others, are part of just one pinwheel-shaped على شكل دولاب الهواء galaxy called the Milky Way درب التبانة . Sometimes it is possible to see the Milky way as a faint band of light arching across يتحدّب the night sky. Ancient people could not understand the nature طبيعة of this faint ribbon of light. To the Vikings and Mayas, it was the path the souls travelled to reach the afterlife الآخرة. To the Romans, It was grain sown حبوب مبذورة across the sky by the goddess Virgo. |
