Reading Strategies:استراتجيات القراءة Using an encyclopedia  موسوعة Choose a topic and plan the search. Take the "index" volume مجلد and search for the topic. You will find several topics related to your main topic with the volume and page number in the indexالفهرس  ( car: V3-page 134) Go to the correct volume, then see if the topic has a table جدول  of contents. Then search for the specific item  الماّدة المحددة  you need in the topic ( car: wheels). See if the information that is written in the volume fits your request تلبي طلبك and if so, write it down.

C Grammar

 Classify the following nouns:

A countable noun is a noun that can be pluralized and can be preceded by the indefinite article a .

An uncountable noun is a noun that can not be pluralized nor can it be preceded by the indefinite

Galaxies are vast islands of stars scattered throughout the universe.

Use the verbs in brackets in the proper form: the Simple Present or Simple Past. In some instances  الأمثلة , you may

 use the passive voice.

One of the most famous landmarks أحد المعالم  in Hama (1) .............. (be) the water wheels or "The Norias" (2) .............. (be)

E Grammar and Structures

Identify whether the underlined letter refers to verb to be (is) or a possessive marker ( ' s  ).

Decide if the word in italics is a verb, a noun or an adjective:

Some / much

much is followed by an uncountable noun. e.g. much sugar / much rice

some is followed by an uncountable noun or countable noun. e.g. some sugar / some rice/ some girl فتاة ما

PREDICTIONS  will and going to

We use will + infinitive المصدر  without to when our prediction is based on intuition, knowledge and experience.

 I think we will be able to have holidays on the moon in 20 years' time.

We use be going to +infinitive without to when our prediction is based on evidence دليل or facts وقائع that we can observe now.

Look at the clouds. It's going to rain.

Which comment is better in each situation?

1  You're planning to buy a computer.

    a) I hope it will be cheap.

    b) It is going to be cheap.

2  It's the last ten minutes of a basketball match between Syria and Bahrain. The score النتيجة is 102: 56 to لصالح Syria.

3  You're going on holiday in Italy.

    a) It probably على الأرجح won't rain.

    b) It's not going to rain.
