| Focused Study
Each magnet area demands reading, research, writing and production, which enable students to search deeply into magnet subject areas. Projects Each student completes a magnet project every year. Projects challenge students in the areas of research, writing, data collection, production, presentation and technology. All students present their projects at Magnet Fairs held during the year. Senior Show highlights and celebrates four years of student success. Mentorships The Serrano CEL faculty has developed a network of mentors in each magnet area. These volunteers from the community are uniquely qualified for particular student interest. Teachers match mentors to students with particular interest in the area of projects, special activities and unique learning experiences. Seniors have the opportunity for a formal mentorship program in their magnet areas. Unique Courses and Opportunities Serrano CEL offers courses and opportunities that are typically not available at other schools. Forensics Science, Aviation, Mock Trials, Fire Science, and other ninth grade introductory courses are available for students. Off campus opportunities include local galleries, The Pantages Theatre and professional settings are also available. Many students enroll concurrently at UCLA for special courses. Business and Community Partnerships Serrano CEL has varied and numerous business and community partners who contribute directly to the success of students. Boeing, Raytheon, Clear Channel Broadcasting, City of Los Angeles, Flight Saftey, USD, JPL, Thermo Electron, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Lucas Foundation and more provide support opportunites for students. |
