| * Buy the syllabus, memorize it to do well on the lecture portion of the exam. *Lab is a necessity to put it all together. The CD is great to put it all together the night before the exam *Study packet purchased from Amy Lee (upperclassman) and study spiral purchased from 3rd year class x2 *Somehow, somewhere, get a copy of the tracts and where they run in the spinal cord. Ask your TA for a copy. *Smart Charts on brain regions and tracts are great. *I am still considering buying the Hanes text because there are gaps in the syllabus and lectures that you are expected to fill in on your own. I highly recommend getting the Neuro pathways from someone (either an MSII or buying them from Amy Lee) because it condenses a lot of important details into a few pages. *Most students will advise you not to buy the Hanes text, but I found it the one resource that I could go to to tie everything together. It is after all, listed as a required book by the faculty. In lecture, there was an effort made to learn one portion of the brain at a time, but in order to do so, you have to refer to parts of the brain not yet studied. I could look up these regions of the brain in the book so that I wasn't confused. Some lecturers re-emphasize that the readings from the text are truly required, so at least make sure you look at the book in the library, or use a friend's. |
| Don't forget about online bookstores: With the availability of the internet, it may be advantageous to purchase your textbooks online. Here are some suggested sites for medical textbooks: http://www.medsite.com (provides discounts to AMSA members occasionally) http://www.discountmedbooks.com http://www.buy.com http://www.amazon.com http://www.fatbrain.com Also, the TMA usually organizes a book sale in the fall for incoming students to by used books. |
