| NOTES: The number 849 is appropriate for a highway linking San Francisco to Charlotte, because it honors the year 1849, when the Gold Rush occurred. It also pays homage to the fact that both cities have teams called the 49ers (San Francisco's NFL franchise and the teams that play at UNC-Charlotte). The number 999 is my number of choice for a highway linking Seattle to Miami via Denver and Atlanta. It was picked entirely on my own free will. And finally, I'd love to see US Route 66 signs reappear on that fabulous Los Angeles-to-Chicago route. If anything, the Mother Road should've never been decommissioned in the first place (although it was a good thing that they got rid of US 666). My two suggestions are: A) Put up some new US Route 66 signs on the entire road that followed that route, although building new stretches alongside I-40, I-44 and I-55 wouldn't hurt, either; and B) Don't ever bring back US 666 again! |
